Quick answer

Teachers Pay Teachers fees depend on the seller plan. Basic costs $29 once, pays 55% and charges $0.30 per resource. Exclusive costs $59.95 a year and pays 77.5%, with a $0.15 fee only on orders under $3, but requires selling digital educational resources only on TPT. The old 80% Premium plan closed to new sign-ups on October 1, 2026, and Exclusive pays for itself at about 43 sales of a $5 resource a year.

Teachers Pay Teachers fees depend on your seller plan: a Basic Seller pays $29 once, keeps 55% of each sale and pays $0.30 per resource, while an Exclusive Seller pays $59.95 a year and keeps 77.5%, with a $0.15 per-resource fee only on orders under $3. The 80% rate most guides still quote belonged to the Premium plan, which closed to new sign-ups on October 1, 2026. It survives only as an introductory rate that ends on January 1, 2027.

Every rate, fee and date here comes from TPT's own help pages, checked October 2026: Seller Fees and Payout Rates (updated October 1, 2026), the Exclusive Seller FAQs for new and Basic Sellers and for existing Premium Sellers (both updated October 1, 2026), and How do I get paid as a Seller? (updated July 21, 2026). The dollar figures are our arithmetic on those rates.

The findings in brief

  • TPT keeps 45% plus $0.30 a resource on Basic, and 22.5% on Exclusive. On a $5 resource that is $2.45 to you on Basic and about $3.88 on Exclusive.
  • The flat fee punishes cheap resources on Basic. A $1 resource pays 25% of its price; a $20 resource pays 53.5%.
  • Exclusive covers its annual fee at low volume. About 43 sales of a $5 resource a year, or roughly $18 a month in sales.
  • The cost of Exclusive is not the $59.95. It is giving up every other store for your digital teaching resources.
  • Payouts are monthly. Earnings arrive the following month, usually around the 10th and no later than the 21st.

Method: where the numbers come from

We read the four TPT help pages linked above on October 11, 2026 and recorded each page's own "updated" date. Rates and fees are quoted as TPT states them. Where a figure is calculated, the formula is shown, the price is an illustrative input, and the order contains one resource unless we say otherwise. Nothing here is drawn from seller surveys, forum posts or our own sales, and where TPT's pages do not answer a question, the limitations section says so.

Teachers Pay Teachers fees by plan

TPT's fees page describes two memberships and says the differences are cost, exclusivity, payout rate, transaction fees and access to seller tools.

Basic SellerExclusive Seller
Membership fee$29 once, non-refundable$59.95 a year
Payout rate55% on all sales77.5% on all sales (80% introductory until January 1, 2027)

ExclusivityNoneDigital educational resources sold only on TPT

Changing your mindUpgrade any time; the $29 is not creditedCan drop to Basic; no refund, one-year wait to rejoin

Two details are easy to miss. The Exclusive transaction fee is triggered by the order total, not the price of the resource: a buyer who puts five $1 resources in one $5 order triggers no fee at all on Exclusive, and five separate $0.30 fees on Basic. And a seller with more than one store cannot split them; TPT requires all stores to be on the same membership.

How much does TPT take from each sale?

On Basic, 45% of the price plus $0.30 for each resource. On Exclusive, 22.5% of the price, plus $0.15 a resource only when the whole order is under $3. Here is where a single $5 sale goes on Basic.

The formula for a single-resource order is 0.55 times the price, minus $0.30, on Basic, and 0.775 times the price on Exclusive at $3 and above. The table runs both at six illustrative prices, with the introductory 80% rate in the last column.

One resource per order. An Exclusive Seller keeps 77.5% at every price from $3 up. Source: our arithmetic on TPT Seller Fees and Payout Rates, checked October 2026

Orders with several resources change the picture, because the fee is charged per resource while the Exclusive threshold looks at the order total. Four illustrative orders show how far apart the plans can land on the same five dollars of content.

OrderBasic: you keepExclusive: you keep
One $1 resource$0.55 - $0.30 = $0.25$0.78 - $0.15 = $0.63
Two $1 resources in one $2 order$1.10 - $0.60 = $0.50$1.55 - $0.30 = $1.25
Five $1 resources in one $5 order$2.75 - $1.50 = $1.25$3.88, no fee
The same five sold as one $5 bundle$2.75 - $0.30 = $2.45$3.88, no fee

The chart and the table together are the argument for bundling on Basic. The $0.30 fee is 30% of a $1 resource and 1.5% of a $20 one, so the same content sold as a unit keeps far more of its price than sold as singles. TPT royalty rates: what happened to the 80% plan

TPT replaced Premium with Exclusive on October 1, 2026. The annual price stayed at $59.95. The payout rate drops from 80% to 77.5%, and a new condition, exclusivity, was added.

For an existing Premium Seller the choice is between two cuts. Exclusive takes 2.5 points, which is $25 on every $1,000 of sales, and adds the exclusivity rule. Basic takes 25 points and adds the $0.30 fee. A Premium Seller whose membership renews before January 1, 2027 can continue as Exclusive or request a refund of that renewal, according to TPT's page on the Premium upgrade.

TPT Basic vs Premium membership is now Basic vs Exclusive: the break-even

If you searched for Basic against Premium, this is the comparison that replaced it. On fees, Exclusive wins almost at once. For a single-resource order of $3 or more, Exclusive pays you an extra 22.5% of the price plus the $0.30 fee you no longer pay. Divide $59.95 by that gain to find the sales that cover a year.

In sales value the break-even sits between $186 and $260 a year, about $16 to $22 a month. A brand-new seller reaches it sooner in year one, because the alternative is not free: Basic costs $29, so Exclusive is only $30.95 more, which 22 sales of a $5 resource cover. TPT also notes that the $29 cannot be put towards Exclusive later, so a seller who is sure about exclusivity saves it by starting there.

Past break-even the gap is large. On illustrative inputs of 60 sales a month at $5, Basic pays $147.00 a month and Exclusive pays $232.50, a difference of $966 over a year after the fee. A store with any real volume loses money on Basic, measured by fees. So the decision is rarely about fees.

The cost that is not a fee: exclusivity

An Exclusive Seller agrees to sell digital educational resources only through TPT. You may keep a website and promote anywhere, but TPT says the transaction must be routed to your TPT store, for example by pointing your own site's buy buttons at the TPT listing.

What Exclusive Sellers can and cannot sell outside TPT
Not allowed off TPT
  • Digital educational resources
  • Memberships or subscriptions that include them
  • Licenses for digital educational resources
  • Payment plans that include them
  • Charging on TPT for a resource you give away free elsewhere
Still allowed off TPT
  • Clip art, fonts and other non-teaching digital items
  • Physical products, including printed workbooks on Amazon
  • Courses and professional development
  • Boom Cards on the Boom platform
  • Kindle books
  • Free resources used as lead magnets

Put a number on it before you sign. If your Etsy shop or your own store sells teaching resources today, add up what those sales paid you over the last twelve months. Exclusive is worth taking only if the extra 22.5 points on your TPT sales exceed that figure, and only if you are comfortable with one company holding the whole business. Leaving is possible, but TPT does not refund the annual fee and makes you wait a year before rejoining. Our comparison of where to sell digital products covers the stores you would be giving up.

The pricing side of the question, what a unit is worth and how to test it, is the same on any platform. The Digital Products program covers pricing, validation and launch for sellers who want resources to become a real line of income rather than a folder of uploads.

  • Methods. Direct deposit, PayPal, Venmo and wire transfer. The options you see depend on your country.
  • Thresholds. TPT's pages state no TPT-side minimum payout. They do say that Hyperwallet transfer methods have different minimums, and that a payout can fail if your earnings do not cover the fees Hyperwallet charges for the method. TPT does not list those amounts on the pages we read; check them inside Hyperwallet when you add a method.
  • Tax details. Registration asks whether you are an individual or a business, and TPT says the choice must match what you gave the tax authority or verification fails.
  • Timing in practice. A resource sold on October 3 is paid in November, most likely around the 10th. Depending on where in the month a sale lands, expect the money between about ten days and seven weeks later.

Is Teachers Pay Teachers free to sell on?

Not any more. The Basic plan carries a one-time, non-refundable $29 fee, and Exclusive is $59.95 a year. Neither page mentions a fee to list a resource, so the ongoing cost is the share TPT keeps of each sale. If you are weighing whether to start at all, the practical test is whether you can sell enough to cover $29: on Basic that is 12 sales of a $5 resource.

Limitations of this analysis

One more caveat belongs outside the box. Fees tell you what you keep from a sale, not whether there will be one. For choosing a price in the first place, see how to price a digital product.

Teachers Pay Teachers fees: FAQ

What are the Teachers Pay Teachers fees in 2026?

TPT has two seller plans. Basic costs a one-time, non-refundable $29, pays 55% of each sale and charges $0.30 per resource. Exclusive costs $59.95 a year, pays 77.5% and charges $0.15 per resource only on orders totaling less than $3, in exchange for selling your digital educational resources only on TPT. From its fees page, updated October 1, 2026.

How much does TPT take from each sale?

On Basic, TPT keeps 45% of the price plus $0.30 per resource, so a $5 resource pays you $2.45. On Exclusive, TPT keeps 22.5% and nothing more on orders of $3 and above, so the same resource pays about $3.88. The flat fee makes cheap items costly on Basic: a $1 resource pays $0.25. Checked October 2026.

Can I still get the 80% TPT payout rate?

Only temporarily. The 80% rate belonged to the Premium Seller plan, which closed to new sign-ups on October 1, 2026. Sellers who join Exclusive between October 1 and December 31, 2026 earn an introductory 80% until January 1, 2027, when the Exclusive rate becomes 77.5%. Existing Premium Sellers keep 80% through December 31, 2026.

Is the TPT Exclusive Seller membership worth it?

On fees alone, quickly. Compared with Basic, Exclusive adds about $1.43 to each $5 resource sold, so its $59.95 annual fee is covered by roughly 43 such sales a year. The real cost is exclusivity: digital educational resources, and memberships or licenses that include them, can no longer be sold on Etsy, your own site or anywhere else.

When does TPT pay sellers?

Monthly, through Hyperwallet. TPT says earnings for each month arrive the following month, no later than the 21st, and usually around the 10th. Your bank or payout method can add two to three business days. Payout options include direct deposit, PayPal, Venmo and wire transfer, depending on your country. Checked October 2026.

Is Teachers Pay Teachers free to sell on?

No. The Basic Seller plan has a one-time, non-refundable fee of $29, and the Exclusive plan costs $59.95 a year. TPT says the $29 cannot be applied towards an Exclusive subscription if you upgrade later. After that there is no listing fee on the pages we checked; TPT takes its share from each sale instead.

What can a TPT Exclusive Seller still sell elsewhere?

TPT lists clip art, fonts and other digital items unrelated to teaching, physical products, courses and professional development, Boom Cards on the Boom platform and Kindle books. Printed workbooks on Amazon are allowed too. You can also give away free resources off TPT, but you cannot charge on TPT for a resource you offer free elsewhere.
