The Instagram story ideas for business that earn their place each do one job: attract a new visitor, nurture a follower into replying, or sell. This page lists 45, fifteen per stage, each with the sticker to pair and a fill-in prompt. Stories mostly reach people who already follow you, so the attract ideas rely on mentions, Add Yours threads and Highlights to reach anyone new.
The best Instagram story ideas for business are the ones with a job: attract someone new, nurture a follower into replying, or sell. Below are 45, fifteen for each job, each paired with one sticker and a fill-in prompt you can copy into the text tool today.
Sticker behaviour checked October 2026 against Instagram's 2026 Stories guide (posted 2 July 2026) and its Stories tips, the Help Center pages on the link sticker and boosting stories, and the creator site's reach tips. The ideas and the reasons in the tables are ours, from running business and creator accounts; Instagram publishes no engagement figures by story type, and neither do we.
Stories are one format in a weekly system. Our Instagram content strategy playbook gives each format a job: Reels reach strangers, carousels teach, Stories keep followers warm. This page is the Stories shelf of that system, sorted so you can pick by what the business needs this week.
How to use this list
Pick the stage first, then the idea. A shop with plenty of followers and few orders needs the sell table. A new account with a good product and an empty profile needs attract. Most weeks you will use two or three ideas from each.
- 01Attract
A new visitor understands what you sell and who it is for.
- 02Nurture
A follower replies, votes or asks, and remembers you.
- 03Sell
A warm follower taps through to buy, book or sign up.
One limit shapes the attract list. Instagram's reach tips say the stories people see "are from people they've chosen to follow, as well as ads." A story does not get recommended to strangers the way a reel does. It reaches someone new in three ways: an account you mention adds it to their own story, people join your Add Yours thread, or a profile visitor opens a Highlight.
| Sticker | What Instagram says it does | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Poll | People tap to vote and you watch results update in real time | A real decision with clear options |
| Quiz | Answer choices with one marked correct | Myths and product knowledge |
| Questions | Replies arrive privately; you can share one anonymously in a follow-up story | FAQs, objections, research |
| Link | Opens a URL outside Instagram; you can customise the sticker text | Product, booking and sign-up pages |
| Countdown | People can subscribe and get a notification when time is up | Launches, deadlines, events |
| Add Yours | A prompt others answer in their own stories, chained into a thread anyone can join | Customer photos, community prompts |
| Mention | The account you mention can add your story to their own | Customers, partners, press |

Instagram story ideas for business, stage 1: attract (1 to 15)
These introduce the business to people who do not know it yet. The pattern is borrowed reach and permanent placement: mention accounts that will share the story, and save the explainers to Highlights, which stay under your bio until you remove them.

Ideas 1, 2, 10 and 11 belong in Highlights the day you post them. A visitor who taps your profile from a reel sees those circles before they see a single post, so name them plainly: Start here, Shop, FAQ, How it works. Naming conventions by niche are in Instagram highlight names.
Instagram story ideas business accounts use to nurture (16 to 30)

Business story ideas for 2026, stage 3: sell (31 to 45)
These ask for money, a booking or a sign-up. The pattern is one action per frame, with the proof and the link on the same screen. Fill-in blanks that involve stock, dates or slots have to be true: a deadline that moves teaches followers to ignore the next one.
| Story idea | Sticker | Fill-in prompt | Why it works |
|---|---|---|---|
| 31. Launch countdown | Countdown | ___ opens on ___ at ___. | Reminder lands at the right moment |
| 32. Launch day | Link | It is live: ___. Tap to get yours. | One frame, one action |
| 33. Offer with a deadline | Countdown and Link | ___ until ___. | A real date beats a vague one |
| 34. Product demo | Link | Watch ___ do ___. | Shows it instead of describing it |
| 35. Objection answered | Link | Worried about ___? Here is how ___ works. | Removes the reason to wait |
| 36. Customer result | Mention and Link | @___ used ___ to ___. | Proof next to the link |
| 37. What is included | Link | Inside ___: ___, ___ and ___. | Makes the price make sense |
| 38. Which one fits you | Poll | ___ or ___: which is you? | Sorts buyers, then you recommend |
| 39. Booking slots | Link | ___ slots open for ___. Book here. | Specific and checkable |
| 40. Back in stock | Link | ___ is back. | Reaches people who missed it |
| 41. Waitlist opt-in | Poll | Want first access to ___? | A list of people to message |
| 42. Reply keyword | None | Reply ___ and we will send ___. | Starts a DM with a buyer |
| 43. Bundle | Link | Pair ___ with ___. | Raises the order, not the pressure |
| 44. Last call | Countdown and Link | Last day for ___. Closes at ___. | The reminder and the link on one frame |
| 45. Sold-out recap | Countdown | ___ is sold out. Next drop: ___. | Turns a no into a reminder |
- 3 days beforeSneak peek (30)

- 1 day beforeLaunch countdown (31)

A sequence like that launch week is story selling, and it is a skill of its own: what to show first, when to ask, how often to repeat the offer without wearing people out. The Story Selling lesson in Instagram Ignited covers the full sequence.
The patterns behind the stories that work
Read the three tables side by side and the same four habits show up in every row.
- A selfie captioned "happy Monday"
- Three stickers competing on one frame
- A link sticker left on its default text
- A question nobody can answer in one tap
- The offer shown once and never again
- One frame, one job: attract, nurture or sell
- One sticker that matches the job
- Link text that says what happens next
- A poll about a decision you will act on
- The offer shown, explained, proven, then closed
- One job per frame. A frame that explains, asks and sells does none of them.
- The sticker is the ask. Polls ask for a tap, questions for a sentence, links for a visit. Match the effort to how well the viewer knows you.
- Close the loop. Share the poll result, answer the question, thank the customer by name.
- Keep what a newcomer needs. A story lasts 24 hours; a Highlight lasts until you delete it.
The same sorting works in any niche. Our art Instagram content ideas apply it to a studio, and how to grow Instagram for a small business shows where Stories sit beside Reels and posts.
Build your own week of business stories
You do not need all 45. You need seven you will post.
- 1Name this week's goal
More profile visitors who follow, more replies, or more orders. One of the three.
- 2Pick seven ideas
Weight them to the goal. An illustrative split for a sales week: two attract, two nurture, three sell.
- 3Fill in the prompts
Write all seven in your notes app in one sitting. Blanks take a minute each once you know the offer.
- 4Assign one sticker each
From the table above. If two stickers both fit, the idea is two stories.
- 5Post, then save the keepers
Anything a first-time visitor should see goes into a Highlight the same day.
- 6Review the numbers
Story insights show reach, taps forward, taps back, replies and exits. Keep the ideas people replied to.
Those five numbers are the story metrics the Help Center lists on its branded content insights page. A single story clip runs up to 60 seconds, and longer videos are split into clips; the planning rules are in how long Instagram stories can be. If you batch the week, Instagram's Stories guide describes scheduling from the three-dot menu before you share, for accounts that meet its eligibility requirements.
- It does one job: attract, nurture or sell
- One sticker, matched to the action you want
- Text is readable with the sound off and clear of the top and bottom edges
- Any date, stock level or slot count in it is true
- Mentions are spelled correctly, so the account can reshare
- Link sticker text says what the tap does
- You know whether it goes into a Highlight
Instagram story ideas for business: FAQ
What should a business post on Instagram Stories?
Stories with a job. Attract stories introduce the business to someone new: what you sell, who it is for, proof it works. Nurture stories keep followers replying: process, answers, polls about real decisions. Sell stories move people to a page: launches, demos, deadlines, links. Pair each with one sticker that matches the job, and leave out personal updates that have nothing to do with the work.
How many stories should a business post a day?
Instagram sets no limit: its 2026 Stories guide says you can post as many stories in a day as you want. Count jobs instead of frames. One short sequence that does one job, such as a question, the answer and a link, is worth more than ten unrelated frames. We plan three to six frames around one job on most days, and none when there is nothing to say.
Which story sticker gets the most engagement?
Instagram publishes no ranking of stickers by engagement, so any chart claiming one is somebody's sample. Choose by the action you want. A poll asks for a tap, the questions sticker asks for a typed reply, a link sticker asks people to leave the app, and a countdown asks them to subscribe to a reminder. Ask for less from people who know you less.
Do Instagram Stories reach people who do not follow you?
Mostly not. Instagram says the stories people see are from accounts they have chosen to follow, plus ads. Three routes get a story in front of new people: mentioning an account that then adds your story to theirs, starting an Add Yours thread others join, and saving stories to Highlights, which every profile visitor can open.
Can a business add a link to an Instagram story?
Yes. Open the sticker tray, tap Link, paste the URL and change the sticker text so it says what happens next, such as "book a slot." Instagram's Help Center notes that link stickers work only in organic stories, and that you cannot boost a story that has a link sticker; ads use a call-to-action sticker instead.
How do I keep a business story longer than 24 hours?
Add it to a Highlight. Open the live story, tap the three dot menu, then Highlight, and pick an existing Highlight or create one. You can also add past stories from your Archive. Highlights sit under your bio until you remove them, so use them for the stories a first-time visitor should see: what you sell, FAQs, proof and how to order.
You have 45 stories. Now learn the sequence that sells.
Instagram Ignited, included in All Access, has a Story Selling lesson on ordering stories into an offer, plus the Content Matrix for ideas and Profile Optimization for the Highlights a new visitor sees. One subscription also opens the other three programs, live coaching and the private community.
