Instagram gifts are not available until your account meets every rule: a professional account, age 18 or older, at least 500 followers, a supported country and a clean monetization status. If you meet them and still see nothing, check the Allow gifts toggles, collab settings and your payout account. Until gifts arrive, Creator Marketplace, brand deals and your own offers are the practical alternatives.
Instagram gifts are not available on your account because it fails at least one eligibility rule: Gifts need a professional account, an owner aged 18 or older, at least 500 followers, a home country on Instagram's supported list and no open monetization policy violations. If you meet all of those and gifts still do not show, a toggle in Professional Dashboard, a collab post or a missing payout account is usually the cause.
Rules checked in October 2026 against Instagram's Help Center articles on earning money with Instagram Gifts, turning gifts on or off, checking your monetization status and payouts. Instagram also labels Gifts as available to select creators, so a small number of eligible accounts may still be waiting.
Gifts let viewers buy Stars and send them on your reels. Instagram pays the creator per Star, monthly. Because gifts switch on automatically for eligible creators, there is no application form, which is why it is so confusing when the option simply never appears. This walkthrough runs the checks in the order that finds the problem fastest. For the full picture of how gifts fit next to brand deals, subscriptions and your own products, start with our guide on how to monetize Instagram in 2026.
What you will have at the end
By the end of this page you will know which of the eight rules your account fails, whether the problem is fixable this week or needs months of growth, and where to switch gifts back on if they are simply turned off. You will also have a plan for earning from the same audience while you wait, so a missing button does not stall the account.
Instagram gifts requirements, checked October 2026
These are the eligibility rules as Instagram publishes them. Every one has to be true at the same time; meeting seven out of eight still means no gifts.
| Rule | What Instagram requires | Where to check it |
|---|---|---|
| Account type | Professional (creator or business) | Professional dashboard on your profile |
| Age | 18 or older | The birthday on your account |
| Followers | At least 500 | Your profile follower count |
| Country | Must live in a supported country | The list in the Help Center article |
| Policy standing | Partner Monetization and Content Monetization Policies, Community Standards | Settings, Creator tools and controls, Monetization status |
| Terms | Agree to the Instagram Gifts Creators Terms | Prompted when Gifts first appears |
| Payouts | Payout account set up to receive earnings | Professional Dashboard, payouts |
| Content type | Not a collab post; account not mainly child-focused content | The reel and your overall account |
The country rule is about where you live, not where your followers are. Instagram's list currently covers Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, the United Kingdom and the United States. If your country is missing, no setting will unlock gifts for you.
Instagram gifts not available? Run these checks in order
Run these in sequence. Each step either clears a rule or tells you exactly what blocks you, and the cheap checks come first.
- 1Confirm a professional account
Your profile should show Professional dashboard. A personal account never sees Gifts. Switching is free and you can switch back.
- 2Check the follower count
You need at least 500 followers. Expected result: your profile shows 500 or more.
- 3Check your age on the account
The account must belong to someone 18 or older. A wrong birthday entered at sign-up blocks every monetization tool.
- 4Check your country
Compare where you live with the supported list. A VPN does not change your eligibility.
- 5Open Monetization status
Settings, then Creator tools and controls (or Business tools and controls), then Monetization status. Any open violation can block Gifts.
- 6Open Professional Dashboard
Look under Your Tools for Gifts. If it is there, gifts are available and the problem is a toggle or payout setup.
Most accounts stop at step two or step five. The follower rule is plain arithmetic. The policy rule is the one people miss, because a violation can sit on the account for months without any visible penalty to reach. Monetization status is the only screen that shows it.
Gifts not showing on Instagram when you are eligible
If Gifts appears in Professional Dashboard but viewers cannot send gifts on a reel, the account is eligible and something narrower is switched off. Instagram turns gifts on automatically for eligible creators, but there are three places they can be turned off.
- The account-wide switch. Professional Dashboard, Your Tools, Gifts, then Allow gifts on reels. When it is off, nobody can send gifts on any of your reels. Turning it back on restores gifts on past and future reels.
- The per-reel switch when posting. Advanced settings on the reel composer has an Allow gifts on this reel toggle. Some creators turn it off once and the app remembers it.
- The per-reel switch after posting. On a published reel, the three dots, then Manage, then Turn off gifts. Check the specific reel viewers say they cannot gift on.
Two content rules also remove gifts from individual reels. Collaborative posts are not eligible to receive or earn from gifts, so a reel posted as a collab will not show the option even on an eligible account. And reels that break Instagram's Content Monetization Policies (checked October 2026) can lose monetization: the policy names static videos, slideshows of images, looping videos, text montages, engagement bait and unoriginal content among the formats and behaviours that cannot earn.
- 01Account eligible
All eight rules met, Gifts appears in Professional Dashboard
- 02Gifts allowed
Account switch and reel switch both on, not a collab
- 03Viewer sends Stars
Bought in the app and sent on your reel
- 04Earnings logged
Professional Dashboard, Gifts shows the running total
- 05Payout released
Monthly, once your payout account exists and you pass the minimum
Why can't I get gifts on Instagram even with enough followers?
Follower count is the rule people check first, so it is rarely the one that blocks an account that already has thousands of followers. When a large account has no gifts, the cause is almost always one of these:
- Monetization policy violations. Instagram's Partner Monetization Policies (checked October 2026) cover more than banned content. They also require an authentic audience, accurate information and an established presence. An audience with a large share of fake engagement, or a history of misinformation flags, can make an account ineligible. Bought followers count against you here even if they once looked like progress.
- Unoriginal content. Accounts built on reposted clips run into the Content Monetization Policies. The fix is to post original work for long enough that the account's standing reflects it.
- Child-focused content. Instagram excludes accounts that primarily post content focused on children from Gifts, regardless of size.
- Country of residence. Large international pages run from an unsupported country do not qualify, even if most of the audience is in the United States.
- Gradual availability. Instagram's toggle article still describes Gifts as available to select creators. If you meet every rule and Monetization status is clean, the remaining step is to wait and keep the account in good standing.
If Monetization status lists violations you think are wrong, the same screen has Request a review, which appeals every listed violation at once, or you can tap each one and appeal individually. Fix anything that is genuinely wrong first; appealing a fair violation wastes the review.
Set up payouts before the first gift arrives
A missing payout account does not hide gifts, but it does stop you being paid for them. Instagram says that if a fan buys a gift before you have a payout account, you can see who sent it but you cannot receive the earnings. Its payouts article adds the limits: without a payout account you can accrue up to $500 per monetization tool, with a maximum of $1,500 across three tools, and if you have not added one within six months you forfeit the earnings (checked October 2026).
Payouts for gifts are released around the 21st of each month for the previous month's earnings. In the United States the minimum balance is $5; elsewhere it is $25, or $100 for wire transfers, and anything below the minimum rolls over to the next month. Instagram pays $0.01 USD per Star received, and both Instagram and the app store take their share when the viewer buys Stars, so the price a viewer pays is higher than what reaches you.
- Professional account switched on (creator or business)
- Birthday on the account shows you are 18 or older
- At least 500 real followers, not bought
- You live in a country on the Gifts list
- Monetization status shows no open violations
- Recent reels are original, not reposts or slideshows
- Payout account added with correct tax and bank details
- Allow gifts on reels is switched on in Professional Dashboard
What to use while gifts are unavailable
Gifts are one of the smaller income lines for most creators: a few cents per Star, paid only when a viewer chooses to buy. Waiting for them is a poor reason to stop building. These options work at the same account size or sooner:
- Creator Marketplace. Instagram's Creator Marketplace eligibility (checked October 2026) asks for a public professional account, age 18 or older and at least 1,000 followers, and is available wherever Meta advertising operates, which is far wider than the Gifts list.
- Direct brand deals. Small, focused accounts can sell sponsored reels to local or niche brands without any Instagram program at all.
- Your own offer. A link in bio to a guide, template pack or service turns attention into income on day one, in any country.
- Live badges later. Badges need at least 10,000 followers per the badges article, so treat them as a later milestone. Our guide to going live on Instagram covers how to run a Live worth showing up for.
Gifts reward reels that viewers want to support, so the growth work and the gifts work are the same work. Our Instagram Reels tutorial covers the formats that hold attention, and the Trial Reels strategy guide shows how to test new ideas on non-followers without hurting your main feed. If you are stuck below the follower rule, the playbook in how to get 10K followers applies at every stage on the way there.

Troubleshooting: specific symptoms
- Gifts disappeared after working. Open Monetization status first. A new violation, a drop below 500 followers or a move to an unsupported country can all remove eligibility.
- Gifts show on some reels but not others. The missing reels are collabs, have the per-reel switch off, or were flagged under the Content Monetization Policies.
- Viewers say they cannot send gifts. Check Allow gifts on reels. Then check that the viewer is not trying to use Facebook Stars: Instagram says a Facebook Stars balance cannot be used to send gifts on Instagram.
- Gifts received but no money. Add a payout account and wait for the next cycle around the 21st. Balances below the minimum roll over.
- Account restricted or disabled. Monetization comes back only after the account itself is in good standing. Start with our Instagram account help hub.
Instagram gifts not available: FAQ
Why are Instagram gifts not available on my account?
Instagram Gifts only switch on for accounts that meet every eligibility rule: a professional account, age 18 or older, at least 500 followers, a home country on the supported list, and no open Partner Monetization or Content Monetization policy violations. Accounts that mainly post content focused on children are excluded. If one rule fails, the Gifts tool does not appear in your Professional Dashboard. Checked October 2026.
How many followers do you need for Instagram gifts?
Instagram's Help Center lists at least 500 followers for Gifts, checked October 2026. Older Meta announcements from 2023 quoted 5,000, so blog posts copying that number are out of date. Followers are only one rule: you also need a professional account, to be 18 or older, to live in a supported country and to have no open monetization policy violations.
Why are gifts not showing on my reels when I am eligible?
Check the toggles first. In Professional Dashboard, Your Tools, Gifts, the Allow gifts on reels switch can turn gifts off across every reel. A single reel can also have gifts switched off under Advanced settings or the Manage menu. Collab posts never show gifts, and reels that break the Content Monetization Policies may lose the option.
Do I need a payout account to receive Instagram gifts?
Yes, to be paid. Instagram says that if a fan sends a gift before you set up payouts you can see who sent it but cannot receive the earnings. Its payouts page says you can accrue up to $500 per monetization tool without a payout account, and you forfeit earnings if you have not added one within 6 months. Checked October 2026.
How much does Instagram pay per gift?
Instagram pays $0.01 USD for every Star received through gifts on your reels, per the Help Center, checked October 2026. Instagram takes its share when the viewer buys Stars, and Apple or Google also take an in-app purchase fee, which Instagram describes as typically 30 percent. Earnings show in Professional Dashboard under Gifts.
Are Instagram gifts the same as badges?
No. Gifts are sent on reels and are paid in Stars. Badges are bought by viewers during Instagram Live. Badges have stricter rules: the Help Center lists at least 10,000 followers, a professional account and age 18 or older, checked October 2026. You can be eligible for Gifts long before you qualify for badges.
