If Instagram trial reels are not showing, the account is missing one of the documented requirements: public, 200 followers on a professional account or 1,000 on a personal one, and eligible for recommendations. Check those, update the app, then look for Trial on the share screen of a new reel. A trial you already posted is not missing: it stays off your public profile, next to your drafts, until you tap Share to everyone.
If Instagram trial reels are not showing, the Trial option is missing because the account is private, is under the follower minimum (200 on a professional account, 1,000 on a personal one) or is not currently eligible to appear in recommendations. If the option is there and it is the reel you posted that has gone missing, nothing is wrong: a trial reel stays off your public profile and sits next to your drafts until you share it to everyone.
Checked October 2026 against Instagram's Help Center pages on trial reels, recommendation eligibility, Account Status, professional accounts and reporting a technical problem, plus the creator site's launch post, Reels page and February 2026 tools update. Labels are quoted as those pages give them.
Trial reels are one setting on the share screen described in our Instagram Reels guide, and what to do with them once you have them is in the trial reels strategy guide. This page is only about access: getting the option, finding it, and finding the reel afterwards.
Instagram trial reels not showing: which problem do you have?
Four different complaints share this search. They have different causes, so start by picking yours.
| What you see | What it usually means | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| There is no Trial option when I post | The account does not meet a requirement, or you are on the wrong screen or an old app version | The four requirements, then the lookalikes |
| I had Trial and it disappeared | The account lost recommendation eligibility, went private or fell under the follower minimum | Account Status |
| I posted a trial and it is not on my profile | Working as designed: trials stay off your public profile | Where a posted trial goes |
| My trial has no insights or no views | Insights take up to 24 hours and non-follower views come slower | Trial posted, nothing happening |

Trial reels not available: the four requirements
Instagram's Help Center sets three conditions and its creator site adds a fourth. No page describes a message that tells you which one you are missing, so check them in turn.
| Requirement | What Instagram says | Where to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public account | You need a public Instagram account | The privacy setting in Settings | Switch the account from private to public |
| Follower minimum | 200 on a professional account, 1,000 on a personal account | The follower count on your profile | Grow past the line, or switch a personal account to professional to use the lower one |
| Recommendation eligibility | An account ineligible for recommendations loses trial reels until it is eligible again | Settings, Account Status | Edit, remove or appeal the content it lists |
| Professional account | Instagram's creator site says trial reels need one; the Help Center allows personal accounts at 1,000 | Settings, Account type and tools | Switch to a creator account if a personal account at 1,000 still has no toggle |
The follower numbers are from the Help Center, checked October 2026. Two details matter in practice. The account has to be public before anything else counts; switching to a professional account makes a private account public and accepts every pending follow request. And recommendation eligibility is easier to inspect on a professional account: the Help Center says professional accounts can see in Account Status whether their content may be recommended to people who don't follow them.
To switch, the Help Center's route is Profile, then More, then Account type and tools below For professionals, then Switch to professional account. Pick a category, choose Creator or Business, and tap Next. You can switch back at any time. Choose Creator unless you run a shop: Meta restricts its licensed music library for certain business accounts, which is a cost you do not need to pay for a toggle.
Where the Trial toggle is in 2026
Trial is not a separate kind of post and it is not in the camera. It appears at the last step, on the share screen of a new reel, and it has one sub-menu.
- 1Start a new reel
Tap Create, then Reel, and record or pick a video. The Help Center says to make sure you create a new reel.
- 2Tap Next until you reach the share screen
Expected result: the screen with the caption box and Edit cover.
- 3Tap Trial
Expected result: Trial is switched on, with Trial settings below it. If you cannot see it, look under Audience and More options before you decide it is missing.
- 4Open Trial settings (optional)
Turn on Share to everyone automatically, then tap Got it. The choice carries over to every future trial until you change it.
- 5Tap Next, then Share
Expected result: the reel posts, but not to your public profile or your followers.
- 6Find it on your profile
It sits alongside your drafts. Only you can see that it is a trial.

There is a second place to look that does not involve posting anything. Since Instagram's February 2026 update, Account type and tools in Settings shows which creator tools the account can use now and what is needed to unlock the rest, and that update names trial reels among the features unlocked by milestones. If trial reels are listed there as locked, you have your answer without guessing. The full posting flow, with every other switch on that screen, is in how to post a reel on Instagram.
Get trial reels back: the order to check things
Work left to right. Each check takes under a minute, and the order runs from the most common cause to the least.
- 01Public
A private account does not qualify.
- 02Follower minimum
200 professional, 1,000 personal.
- 03Account type
Switch personal to creator if you are between 200 and 1,000.
- 04Account Status
Clear anything that blocks recommendations.
- 05Update the app
Then start a brand new reel.
- 06Report a problem
Only after the five before it pass.
- Check Account Status. Go to your profile, tap Menu, and below More info and support tap Account Status. Expected result on a professional account: a note on whether your content can be recommended, with a sample of any post that breaks the Recommendations Guidelines.
- Deal with what it lists. The Help Center lets you edit or remove the content, or request a review if you think the call is wrong. Access to trial reels returns when the account is eligible again; no page gives a waiting time.
- Update, then test with a new reel. Open the share screen of a reel you have just started; do not reopen an old draft.
- Report it. Shake your phone and tap Report a problem, or go to Menu, Help, Report a Problem. Say that the account is public, give the account type and follower count, and attach a screenshot of the share screen.
If Account Status shows limits you do not understand, our guide on how to check for a shadowban walks through reading that screen.
Five things that mimic missing access
In each of these the account qualifies and the feature works. Something else makes it look absent or broken.
- An old app version. Instagram's first advice for any feature that is not working is to try updating the app. Do that before anything else.
- The wrong screen or the wrong device. Trial is on the share screen, not the camera or the editor. The Help Center's computer steps for posting a reel list a cover, a trim, a caption, tags and alternate text, and no Trial option.
- The wrong account. Instagram lets you stay logged in to up to 10 accounts, and eligibility is per account. A backup with 150 followers will not show what your main account shows. Check the handle at the top of your profile.
- An account-type mismatch. A personal account at 600 followers is under its minimum of 1,000 while the same account as a creator account would clear 200. The numbers look fine until you check which line applies.
- A repeat upload. The toggle is there, the reel posts and almost nobody sees it. The Help Center warns that a trial "may get limited reach if Instagram detects that you've previously shared the same content." That reads as a broken feature; it is a duplicate.
Schedulers are a sixth, smaller case. Not every scheduling route has a trial setting, so a reel queued in one may go out as a normal reel. The table in how to schedule Instagram Reels lists which routes document one.
Instagram trial reels missing after you post: where the reel goes
A trial that vanishes from your profile after you tap Share has done exactly what it should. Instagram's launch post puts it plainly: the reel "will not appear in your profile's reels tab or your main grid unless you later decide to Share to everyone."
- At postingShown to people who do not follow you
Followers do not get it in Feed or Reels. On your own profile it sits alongside your drafts.
- Within 24 hoursInsights arrive
Views, likes, comments and shares. Before that, an empty insights screen is normal.
- Soon afterAutomatic sharing, if you turned it on
Instagram shares it to everyone if it is performing well. The creator site describes that as a lot of views within the first 72 hours.
- Any timeShare to everyone
Profile, your reels, tap the reel, View insights, Share to everyone. It then appears on your main grid and Reels tab.

- Not on your grid or public Reels tab
- Followers say they cannot see it
- No insights in the first 24 hours
- Views arrive slower than on a regular reel
- A follower saw it through a DM or an audio page
- No Trial option on a public account over the minimum
- Trial option disappeared overnight
- Account Status shows content that cannot be recommended
- Every trial stalls near zero for days
- The same video was posted before
That last item on the left is documented too. A trial is hidden from followers in Feed and Reels, not sealed: the Help Center says someone might still see it if it is sent to them in a direct message, on a page that shows reels with the same audio, or in search engine results. If the reel you cannot find was not a trial, the causes are different and are covered in why a reel is not showing on your profile.
Trial posted, nothing happening
Give it a day before you judge it. Instagram says trial reels may take longer to get views because they go to people who don't follow you, and that they are "evaluated independently in Instagram's ranking and don't impact the performance or ranking of your standard reels content." A slow trial does not drag your account down. After 24 hours, three documented causes are worth ruling out:
- It is a repeat. Post a new edit, not a second upload of a video that is already on your account.
- It is over 3 minutes. The Help Center says reels over 3 minutes won't be recommended to new audiences, and a trial has no other audience.
- The account has a limit. If the account is not eligible to be recommended, none of its content is recommended, and the Help Center says access to trial reels goes with it.
If your regular reels fell at the same time, the trial is a symptom and the account is the problem. Put your Insights numbers into the free Reach Drop Diagnoser to rank the likely causes. If only the trials are weak, that is the feature doing its job: it told you something about the idea before your followers saw it. How trials and regular reels are ranked differently is in trial reels vs regular reels, and reading the results is the subject of the Trial Reels Deep Dive lesson in Instagram Ignited.
Is it a regional rollout gap?
Probably not. When Instagram introduced trial reels on December 10, 2024, it said they "will start rolling out today and will be globally available to all eligible creators in the coming weeks." The current Help Center page lists follower counts, account privacy and recommendation eligibility, and no countries. We found no official page that names a region where trial reels are switched off.
What the official pages do admit is uneven access by account type: personal accounts are described as part of ongoing testing on one page and as eligible at 1,000 followers on another. Instagram's problem-report page also reminds you that you might be experiencing an issue "if a feature isn't available to everyone yet." So if you are public, professional, over 200, clean in Account Status and updated, and the option is still missing, treat it as a fault on Instagram's side and report it. A VPN or a new account is not a fix anyone at Instagram documents.
- Account is public
- Professional account with 200 or more followers, or personal with 1,000 or more
- Account type and tools does not show trial reels as locked
- Account Status shows nothing blocking recommendations
- App is updated and you started a brand new reel
- You are on the share screen, in the app, in the right account
- The video has not been posted on this account before
- Still missing after all seven: report a problem from the share screen
Trial reels not showing: FAQ
Why are Instagram trial reels not showing on my account?
Instagram's Help Center lists the conditions: a public account, at least 200 followers on a professional account or 1,000 on a personal one, and an account that is eligible to appear in recommendations. Miss any one and the Trial option does not appear. If you meet all of them, update the app, start a new reel and look on the share screen. Checked October 2026.
How many followers do you need for trial reels?
At least 200 on a professional account, which means creator or business, or at least 1,000 on a personal account. Both need to be public. Those figures are from Instagram's Help Center, checked October 2026. Switching a personal account to a creator account lowers the bar from 1,000 to 200, and you can switch back at any time.
Where is the Trial toggle on Instagram?
On the share screen of a new reel, the one with the caption box and Edit cover. Instagram's Help Center says to tap Trial before you share, then Next, then Share, and Trial settings sits below it. It is not on the camera or editing screens, and the Help Center's computer steps for posting a reel do not list it.
Why did I lose access to trial reels?
The Help Center names one cause: if your public account becomes ineligible to appear in recommendations, you also lose access to trial reels, and you get it back once the account is eligible again. Open Account Status in settings to see any limit and the content behind it. A private account, or one under the follower minimum, does not qualify either.
Why is my trial reel not showing on my profile?
That is how trial reels work. Followers do not see a trial in Feed or Reels, and it stays off your public profile until you choose Share to everyone. Instagram says you can find it on your own profile alongside your drafts, and that only you can see it is a trial. Open it, tap View insights, then Share to everyone.
Are trial reels available in every country?
Instagram said at launch on December 10, 2024 that trial reels would be globally available to all eligible creators in the coming weeks, and its Help Center lists no country restriction. So a missing toggle is far more likely to be an eligibility rule or an old app version than your region. If everything checks out, report it as a technical problem.
Why does my trial reel have no views?
Instagram says trial reels may take longer to get views because they are shown only to people who do not follow you, and insights arrive within 24 hours. Reach can also be limited when Instagram detects you have shared the same content before, and reels over 3 minutes are not recommended to new audiences at all.
You have the toggle. Now run tests that tell you something.
Instagram Ignited, included in All Access, has a Trial Reels Deep Dive lesson, plus the Viral Hook Framework and Analyzing Metrics lessons that decide what to test and how to read it. One subscription also opens the other three programs, live coaching and the private community.
Still no Trial option? Compare notes
