If an Etsy digital download was not received, it is almost always waiting in your account: sign in at etsy.com in a browser, open Purchases and reviews and select Download Files. The Etsy app cannot download files, and a grey button means the payment is still processing. If the seller never delivers or the file is not as described, send a Help with order request and open a case after 48 hours.
If your Etsy digital download was not received, the file is almost always sitting in your account already: sign in at etsy.com in a web browser, go to Your account, open Purchases and reviews, and select Download Files next to the order. You do not need the email. The three usual blockers are the Etsy app (it cannot download digital files), a payment that is still processing (the button stays grey) and a made-to-order file the seller has not finished.

- Open etsy.com in a web browser, not the Etsy app
- Look in Purchases and reviews before you hunt for the email
- Check whether the Download Files button is grey (payment) or the order says In progress (made to order)
- If clicking does nothing, turn off ad blockers and toolbars and try again
- If the file is corrupted, delete it and download a fresh copy; unzip ZIP files before opening
- Print the downloaded file, never the listing photo or a screenshot
- Still stuck after all six: send the seller a Help with order request

1. Etsy digital download not received: get it from your account
Every file attached to your order lives on a Downloads page in your Etsy account, whether or not the email reached you. Etsy says there are generally no limits on when or how many times you can download, as long as the order has not been cancelled or removed.

On a computer, or in Safari or Chrome on your phone. The Etsy app has no download option for digital files.

Use the account you bought with. Guest order? See fix 2.

Find the order by the shop name or the date you bought it.

Expected result: a Downloads page listing every file in the order, with the seller’s note to buyers if they wrote one.

Expected result: the files appear in your device’s downloads folder. Keep your own copy.
2. No download email from Etsy
Etsy sends an email when your files are ready, and it is often filtered. Check spam or junk first; in Gmail, check the Social and Promotions tabs too. Etsy suggests adding transaction@account.etsy.com or noreply@etsy.com to your contacts so future emails land in the inbox.
Bought as a guest? The download link for an instant download is in the receipt email Etsy sent after the purchase, so search your inbox for the receipt, not a separate download email. If you no longer have access to that email address, Etsy's advice is to contact the seller directly about how they can send the files.
3. Etsy download not working: grey button, In progress, or nothing happens
- The Download Files button is grey. Your payment is still processing. Etsy says a card or PayPal payment may take a few minutes before the link is sent. Reload the page after the payment confirms.
- The order says In progress. You bought a made-to-order digital item, such as a personalised invitation. The seller uploads the file when it is finished and Etsy emails you then. The delivery window is the seller's, so ask for a completion time through Messages.
- Nothing happens when you click. Etsy points to the browser: disable non-standard add-ons such as ad blockers or toolbars and try again. A different browser is a quick way to rule this out.
- The order has gone. If a seller cancels an order, the buyer's access to the file is removed and the payment is refunded.
4. Can't download Etsy files on a phone?
You can, but only through the phone's web browser. Open etsy.com in the browser, sign in and follow fix 1. The harder part on a phone is what happens after the download: a ZIP file needs the device's file manager or a compatible app before you can use what is inside. If the order contains a ZIP and you have access to a computer, download it there.
5. Etsy file won't open
An Etsy file that will not open is nearly always one of three things: an interrupted download, a ZIP that has not been unzipped, or a file type your device has no program for. Take them in that order.
- "Corrupted" file: delete it and download it again from the Downloads page.
- ZIP file: on a computer, double-click it or right-click and choose Extract. Open the extracted files, not the ZIP itself.
- Unknown file type: the type is shown under Highlights on the listing page. Match it to the table below, then check the listing description for software the seller says you need.

Editable templates are a special case. Sellers often deliver them as a short PDF containing a link to the template in a design app, so if your download is a one-page PDF, open it and look for the link. Our list of file types you can sell on Etsy explains why sellers package files this way.
6. The print is blurry or the wrong size
Blurry prints usually come from printing the wrong thing. The photos on a listing page are previews, and a screenshot is a small copy of a preview. Print the file you downloaded. In the print dialog choose actual size or 100% when the size matters, because a fit-to-page setting rescales the design. If the seller supplied several sizes, pick the file that matches your paper, and message them if the size you need is missing.
7. The seller never delivered, or the file is not as described
Digital listings cannot be returned or cancelled, and Etsy says so on the item page. A change of mind is the seller's call. A file that never arrives or does not match the listing is different: Etsy says those orders may be covered by its Purchase Protection program, and the route there has a fixed order.

For sellers: head off the same failures
Every fix above is something a buyer had to work out alone. Each has a seller-side setting that prevents it, and all of them are in Etsy's digital listing tools.
- Add a note for buyers: it applies to every digital listing and shows on the buyer’s Downloads page
- Put "browser, not the app" and "Purchases and reviews, then Download Files" in the first two lines of that note
- Name files before uploading: buyers see the exact file name and Etsy cannot rename it afterwards
- Keep names within Etsy’s 70-character limit and say what the file is, such as planner-a4.pdf
- State the file type, sizes and any software needed in the listing description
- Ship a PDF that opens on a phone alongside any ZIP, within the limit of five files of 20MB each
- Made to order: state the delivery time and finish with Complete order, then Upload file, so Etsy emails the buyer

Why have I not received my Etsy digital download?

Can I download Etsy digital files in the Etsy app?
