Instagram Grid Maker

Split one photo into 3, 6, 9 or up to 15 posts that join into one picture on your profile grid. Pick 3:4, 4:5 or square tiles at Instagram's 1080 pixel width, see it on a phone-sized profile, and post the tiles in their numbered order. Your image never leaves your browser.

Pick an image to cut it into a grid. A 3:4 photo fits a 3 × 3 grid of 3:4 tiles with nothing cropped.

The grid

Tile shape

1080×1440. Matches the 3:4 profile grid, so every post shows in full there.

Your profile grid

Grey tiles stand in for your older posts.

The numbers show the posting order: tile 1 goes up first.

Make the grid earn the follow

A striking grid gets the profile visit; what you post next keeps the follower. Instagram Ignited, included in All Access, covers profile setup, content formats and testing what works for your account. Start with the free Starter Kit: working files from the programs that open in your browser.

Instagram grid sizes, and how the cut works

Grid tile  = 3:4, so a tile h tall shows h × 3/4 across
Margin     = (export width − h × 3/4) ÷ 2
             0 px for 3:4, 34 px for 4:5, 135 px for 1:1
Crop       = (3 × h × 3/4 + 2 × margin) by (rows × h)
Tile r, c  = from c × h × 3/4 across, r × h down
Post order = bottom right is 1, top left goes up last

Width and shape. Instagram's Help Center page on image resolution (checked October 15, 2026) says photos are kept at their original resolution between 320 and 1080 pixels wide when the aspect ratio is between 1.91:1 and 3:4, which is 1080 × 566 up to 1080 × 1440. Wider photos are sized down to 1080 and other shapes are cropped to fit, so every tile here is exactly 1080 wide.

The grid. In January 2025 Instagram replaced the square profile grid with tall rectangles (PetaPixel, January 23, 2025). The tiles are 3:4, the tallest shape the Help Center allows, so a 1080 × 1440 post shows in full and wider posts lose a strip at each side. That is why 4:5 and square tiles overlap their neighbours here: the parts the grid shows meet exactly, and each post on its own still shows a whole slice.

Reordering. In June 2026 Instagram began rolling out a Reorder grid option on profiles (9to5Mac, June 9, 2026, citing Instagram's own Threads post), so a tile posted out of order can be dragged back into place.

Example: a 3024 × 4032 photo is already 3:4, so a 3 × 3 grid of 3:4 tiles uses all of it. Each tile covers 1008 × 1344 pixels and is saved at 1080 × 1440.

Questions

How do I make a grid on Instagram?

Split one image into tiles three across, then post every tile as its own single post (not a carousel), starting with the bottom-right tile and ending with the top-left one. Instagram puts each new post in the top-left corner and pushes the others along, so the picture builds itself on your profile. This tool numbers the tiles in that order.

What size is an Instagram grid post?

Export at 1080 pixels wide. Instagram keeps photos between 1.91:1 and 3:4, which at 1080 wide is 1080 × 566 up to 1080 × 1440. The profile grid shows every post as a 3:4 tile, so 1080 × 1440 shows in full on the grid. A 1080 × 1350 (4:5) or 1080 × 1080 (square) post shows only its middle on the grid.

In what order do I post grid pieces?

Last tile first. Post tile 1 (bottom right), then 2, and so on up to the top-left tile, which goes up last. Each file from this tool has its posting number in the name, so you can upload them in order without checking the picture.

Why does my Instagram grid not line up?

Usually one of four things: a pinned post at the top, which pushes every tile along; a post added in the middle of the set; a number of tiles that is not a multiple of three; or posts in a shape that the grid crops differently from what you planned. Unpin posts while you post the set, post all tiles in one go, and keep every tile the same shape.

Should I use 3:4, 4:5 or square tiles?

Use 3:4 if you can: the post and the grid tile are the same shape, so nothing is hidden. 4:5 and square posts are wider than the grid tile, so the grid trims their sides. This tool overlaps those tiles so the trimmed grid still joins up, and each post opened on its own still shows a complete slice of the picture.

Can I rearrange my Instagram grid after posting?

Yes. In June 2026 Instagram started rolling out a Reorder grid option that lets you drag posts into a new order from your profile. It helps if one tile went up out of order, but posting in the numbered order is still the fastest way to get it right.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is read and cut by your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to IImagined or any other server, and closing the tab discards it.
