The Notion template marketplace is Notion's own store: selling through it costs 8% plus 40 cents a sale, Notion handles sales tax, and it is the only option that can stop buyers moving your template to other workspaces. Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy, Whop and Etsy suit sellers who bring their own traffic or want shopper search. Most sellers pick Notion plus one store and keep separate template links for each.
The Notion template marketplace is Notion's built-in store, where you can list templates free or paid and, once approved, sell them through Notion for 8% plus 40 cents per sale. Pick it if you want buyers who are already browsing Notion templates and the only real copy protection on offer; pick Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy or Whop if you bring your own audience, and Etsy if you want shopper search.
Fees and rules checked October 2026 on official pages: Notion selling on Marketplace, Gumroad's fees, Lemon Squeezy pricing, Whop fees and Etsy's fees policy. Fees change; check the source before you price.
This page is part of our where to sell digital products hub, which covers every platform type. Here we narrow it to one product: a Notion template delivered as a duplicate link. If you have not built the template yet, start with how to make Notion templates to sell.
The verdict in one table
| Where | Fee (checked October 2026) | Handles sales tax | Where buyers come from | Link protection | Refunds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Notion Marketplace (sold via Notion) | 8% + $0.40 | Yes, Notion | People browsing Notion templates | Access locking (Restricted) | 14-day buyer refunds |
| Notion Marketplace (link out) | None from Notion; the checkout store fee applies | Depends on store | Same listing reach | None from Notion | Store rules |
| Gumroad (direct link) | 10% + $0.50, plus card processing 2.9% + $0.30 | Yes | Your own audience | None built in | Seller sets |
| Gumroad (Discover sale) | 30% flat, processing included | Yes | Gumroad marketplace | None built in | Seller sets |
| Lemon Squeezy | 5% + $0.50, some extra fees possible | Yes | Your own audience | License keys, not template locks | Seller sets |
| Whop | 2.7% + $0.30 domestic card; tax handling 2% if enabled | If tax handling enabled | Whop Discover and affiliates | Membership-gated delivery | Seller sets |
| Etsy | $0.20 listing + 6.5% transaction, plus payment processing | Etsy collects some sales taxes | Etsy search shoppers | None built in | Seller sets |
The fee column is only half the decision. A Notion template is a link, and every store except Notion's own delivers that link without any way to stop it being forwarded. Reach is the other half: a store with a lower fee and no traffic costs you more than a higher fee on a store where people are searching.
Notion marketplace fees on a $19 template, compared
Using $19 as an illustrative price, a single domestic card sale, and each platform's published rates, this is what each store takes before taxes and payout costs. These are arithmetic on the published rates, not quotes.
Etsy adds a payment processing fee that varies by country. Whop adds 2% if you enable tax handling and more for international cards. Notion, Gumroad and Lemon Squeezy act as merchant of record. Source: Official fee pages of each platform, checked October 2026
Read the bars with the tax column in mind. Notion, Gumroad and Lemon Squeezy are merchants of record, so their fee includes collecting and remitting sales tax and VAT. Whop charges 2% extra when you turn its tax handling on, and Etsy collects some taxes in some regions. If you would otherwise file VAT yourself, the cheapest bar is not the cheapest option. Run your own price and volume through our platform break-even calculator to see where the lines cross for you.
Notion Marketplace: reach plus the only real lock
Notion's Marketplace is where people go when they search inside Notion's template gallery, so the buyer already uses the product and knows what a duplicate link is. That removes the biggest support load template sellers face elsewhere.
- Fee: 8% plus 40 cents per transaction when Notion processes the payment, covering processing, purchase support, refunds and fraud monitoring. Non-US creators pay a further 1% to convert payouts from US dollars.
- Payouts: every two weeks on Thursdays, minimum $20, after a 14-day hold.
- Access locking: set a template to Restricted and buyers can duplicate it within their own workspace but cannot move it to another workspace or paste its blocks elsewhere. It is available only for templates sold through Notion or listed free on Marketplace.
- Refunds: buyers can request one within 14 days, and Notion removes the template and anything copied from it from their workspace.
- Extras: coupons, analytics for Notion-processed sales, optional buyer email collection, and webhooks for verified sellers.
Limits: selling through Notion needs a waitlist approval that Notion says can take a few months, and Notion can reject applications. The Marketplace guidelines also reject near-duplicate submissions, so you cannot flood it with colour variants of one template.
Gumroad: your audience, your email list
Gumroad charges 10% plus 50 cents on sales through your profile or direct links, plus card processing of 2.9% plus 30 cents or PayPal fees. Sales that come from Gumroad's Discover marketplace cost a flat 30% that includes processing. Gumroad has been merchant of record since January 2025 and handles sales tax, per its pricing page.
Gumroad fits creators who sell from social posts or a newsletter: you get the buyer's email, discount codes, bundles and simple upsells. There is no template lock, so deliver the duplicate link on the receipt page and in a PDF, and refresh the link if it leaks. Our Sellfy vs Gumroad comparison covers its storefront limits.
Lemon Squeezy: low fee, a platform in transition
Lemon Squeezy lists 5% plus 50 cents per transaction as merchant of record, with possible extra fees in some cases. In January 2026 its team wrote that they are building Stripe Managed Payments and plan an easy migration path for Lemon Squeezy users, per the 2026 update post (checked October 2026). It still works for template sales, but check its status before you build a store around it. See Gumroad vs Lemon Squeezy for the side-by-side.
Whop: cheapest processing, built for memberships
Whop's published card rate is 2.7% plus 30 cents for domestic cards, plus 1.5% for international cards and 1% when currency conversion is needed; managed tax handling adds 2% when enabled. Whop's changelog says it removed its former 30% Discover marketplace fee, and its docs say products are open to Whop's global affiliates at a default 30% commission (checked October 2026).
Whop suits template sellers who bundle templates into a membership, a community or a monthly drop, because delivery sits behind a login rather than a forwarded link.
Etsy: search traffic, more competition
Etsy charges $0.20 to list an item for four months and 6.5% of the sale price, plus payment processing, under its fees policy. Shoppers search Etsy for "notion template" the way they search for printables, which gives a new seller traffic no direct store provides. The cost is competition on price and the need for strong listing images; our Payhip vs Etsy breakdown shows when a direct store beats it.
On Etsy the download is usually a one-page PDF holding the duplicate link and setup steps. Etsy's Creativity Standards require digital items to be designed by you and AI use to be disclosed in the listing description (checked October 2026), so a template built from someone else's layout does not belong there either.
Which Notion template marketplace to pick
- Your buyers already live in Notion
- You want access locking
- You do not want to handle sales tax
- You can wait for payments approval
- You sell from social or a newsletter
- You want the buyer email by default
- You bundle templates with guides or courses
- You need to sell this week
Running two channels is normal. Keep one private master copy, publish one product copy per channel, and update both when you ship a fix. Notion is explicit that once you sell through it, paid templates' existing links redirect to its checkout, so the second channel always needs its own link.
For pricing, catalog strategy and launch, our Digital Products program goes deeper than any one storefront choice. For niche ideas, see the Notion templates business guide.
How to sell Notion templates on the marketplace
If you decide Notion's store is your main channel, the setup runs in a fixed order. Doing it out of order is the most common reason a seller ends up with buyers who cannot duplicate what they paid for.
- 1Create a creator profile
At app.notion.com/profile, separate from your normal Notion profile.
- 2Apply to sell with Notion
Settings tab, Sell templates with Notion, Apply. Expect a review that can take months.
- 3Publish the template
Share, Publish, then toggle on Duplicate as template.
- 4Start a new template listing
Name, link, category, language, screenshots and a video of up to 60 seconds.
- 5Set price and access locking
Paid template on, price entered, Restricted if you want to block redistribution.
- 6Choose email collection and submit
None, Optional or Require, then Submit for review.
- 7Move other stores to a new link
Publish a separate copy for Etsy or Gumroad buyers once Notion handles payments.
Before you submit, read the listing standards line by line. Notion asks for templates that are well organised, original, easy to use with clear instructions, accurately described and up to date with current Notion features, and it states that it may reject or remove work that falls short. Screenshots that show features the template does not contain are a fast way to a rejection.
Alternatives worth a look
- Your own site with a checkout. Full control of the page and the buyer relationship, but you bring all the traffic.
- Payhip or Sellfy. Similar to Gumroad with different fee and storefront models.
- Bundling into a course or community. A template sold as part of a program is harder to forward and easier to support.
Notion template marketplace: FAQ
What does Notion Marketplace charge to sell a template?
When you sell through Notion directly, Notion charges 8% plus 40 cents per transaction, covering payment processing, purchase support, refunds and fraud monitoring. Notion is the merchant of record and handles sales tax or VAT. Creators outside the United States pay an extra 1% foreign exchange fee on payouts. Listing a free template, or a paid one that links to another checkout, has no Notion selling fee. Checked October 2026.
What is the best place to sell Notion templates?
There is no single best place. Notion Marketplace puts the template in front of people already browsing Notion templates and is the only option with access locking. Gumroad and Lemon Squeezy suit creators who bring their own audience and want email lists and discount codes. Etsy brings search traffic from shoppers. Many sellers list on Notion Marketplace and one store, using separate template links for each.
Can I sell the same Notion template on Notion Marketplace and Gumroad?
Yes, but use two published copies. Once you sell through Notion, paid templates at their existing Notion Site links redirect to the Marketplace checkout, so buyers from another store would see a checkout instead of the duplicate button. Notion tells creators to duplicate the template and publish it at a new link for the third-party store. Keep both copies updated from one private master.
How do Notion Marketplace payouts work?
Notion pays through Stripe. Payouts start every two weeks on Thursdays, need a minimum balance of $20 (higher in some countries), and funds are held for 14 days before they become eligible, to cover refunds. Sales are in US dollars; creators outside the United States are paid in local currency with a 1% conversion fee. You report your own income taxes. Checked October 2026.
Does Notion Marketplace offer refunds to buyers?
Yes. Anyone who buys directly on Notion Marketplace can request a refund within 14 days. When a refund goes through, Notion removes the template from the buyer workspace, including copied pages, databases and buttons and any pages they added inside it. The refunded amount comes out of your Stripe balance. Other stores set their own refund rules, so state yours on the listing.
Is it hard to get approved to sell on Notion Marketplace?
Listing and payments are separate. You can submit a template for review from your creator profile, and approved listings appear on Marketplace. To take payments through Notion you join a waitlist, Notion approves or rejects at its discretion, and Notion says the review can take a few months. Until then you can list a paid template that sends buyers to a third-party checkout.
Pick the store, then build the catalog.
All Access includes the Digital Products program, covering validation, pricing, listings and launches across Notion, Gumroad and Etsy, plus the other three programs and the private community in one subscription.
