Instagram Username Generator

Type your name and your niche and get username ideas that already follow Instagram's and TikTok's rules, ready to copy, shuffle and look up.

About you

Separate keywords with commas. Accents are dropped and spaces removed, because handles allow neither.

Must fit

Check a handle you have in mind

Checks the published rules only, not whether someone already has it.

Username ideas

Fitting the rules is not the same as being free. This page cannot see who owns a handle, so look each one up: the app's Edit profile screen is the only real test.

Grow the account behind the name

Instagram Ignited, included in All Access, covers profile setup, content and growth. Start with the free Starter Kit: working files from the programs that open in your browser.

Also free: style your name line with the Instagram font generator, and read how to use the 150-character bio.

How the ideas are made and checked

Instagram 1 to 30 characters letters, numbers, periods, underscores
TikTok 2 to 24 characters letters, numbers, underscores, periods
                                no period at the end

The patterns. Your name and keywords are lowercased, accents dropped and spaces removed. The generator then combines them the ways handles are usually built: full name, initial and surname, name with niche, niche with name, a short prefix such as its or hey, and a suffix such as hq or studio, joined directly, with a period or with an underscore. It never puts a period at the start or end or two in a row, so every idea is easy to read and type. Shuffle draws a new mix, no more than two of a pattern at a time.

The rules, checked October 2026. TikTok's username page says a username must have 2 to 24 characters, can only contain letters, numbers, underscores and periods, cannot end with a period, and can be changed once every 30 days. Instagram's Help Center suggests periods, numbers and underscores to find a name not in use; the 30-character limit and the rule that nothing else is allowed are as listed by Hootsuite (October 6, 2026), because Instagram's help pages do not spell them out.

What it cannot do. There is no connection to Instagram or TikTok, so nothing here knows whether a handle is taken, reserved or held by an inactive account. Each idea links to its profile address for you to look up, and the app's Edit profile screen gives the final answer. Instagram's search explainer says it matches searches against usernames, bios, captions, hashtags and places, which is why a niche word in the handle can help.

Questions

How do I check if an Instagram username is available?

This generator cannot see Instagram's accounts, so it never says a handle is free. Open each idea with its Instagram link: if the page says it is not available, nobody shows a public profile there, which is a good sign but not proof, because accounts that seem inactive still hold their names. The real test is typing it into Edit profile, where Instagram tells you straight away.

What characters can an Instagram username have?

Only letters, numbers, periods and underscores. No spaces, hyphens, emoji or styled letters. Instagram's Help Center suggests adding periods, numbers or underscores when the name you want is in use, which is why the generator mixes them in.

How long can an Instagram or TikTok username be?

Instagram allows up to 30 characters. TikTok allows 2 to 24 characters and does not allow a period at the end. Pick Both and you only see handles that fit both, so you can keep one name everywhere.

Is this an AI username generator?

No. It builds ideas from patterns, such as your name with your niche word, a short prefix or a suffix, and checks each against the rules. That keeps every idea readable and on topic. It runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Should my username include my niche?

It helps people find you. Instagram says search matches what people type against usernames, bios, captions, hashtags and places, so a niche word in the handle or the name line gives searchers something to match. Keep it short enough to say out loud.

How often can I change my username?

TikTok lets you change it once every 30 days, and a name you give up cannot be added to an account again for a short period. Settle on a handle before you print it anywhere or start a brand around it.

What makes a good username?

One you can say once and have someone type correctly: short, no strings of numbers, no more than one period or underscore, and the same on every platform. Avoid real people's names and other brands' trademarks, which can get an account reported.
