Quick answer

Digital sticker niches are planning jobs: functional icons, widgets, study sets, budget and habit trackers, monthly kits and date sets. No marketplace publishes sales by niche, so pick by who opens the pack every day. In this category the format decides the reviews: deliver each sticker as a pre-cropped transparent PNG, add a Goodnotes collection file, and keep every file under 5MB.

The digital sticker niches worth building are planning jobs, not art styles: functional icons and labels, widgets, student study sets, teacher planning sets, budget trackers, habit trackers, monthly decorative kits and date sets. Whichever you choose, the format decides your reviews. Buyers forgive plain artwork far sooner than a pack they had to crop by hand.

Checked October 2026 against Goodnotes Support on creating, using and sharing Elements, inserting images and plans and limits, Goodnotes' Marketplace creator sign-up, Notability's help page on adding media, Apple Support on opening ZIP files on iPad, and Etsy Help on digital listings and Marketplace Insights. Goodnotes now spells its name with a lowercase n. We collected no sales data, and nothing here is ranked by revenue.

A digital sticker is a small transparent image that someone drops onto a planner page with a stylus, hundreds of times a year. That repetition is the business: a pack that saves two taps per use gets recommended, and one that costs two taps gets refunded. If you are still deciding what kind of product to make, our guide to creating a digital product compares the options. This page is for people who have settled on stickers.

Digital sticker niches: functional beats decorative

There is no sales chart for this category. Etsy does not publish sales by niche, and the journaling trend in its March 2026 seasonal report is about paper: leather covers, charms and memory journals. So sort niches by how often the buyer will reach for the pack.

Four kinds of sticker pack
Used all year
Aesthetic kits in a fixed palette: neutrals, pastels, dark mode. Bought for a look.
Icons, labels, checklists and widgets. The pack a planner opens every single day.
Seasonal
Monthly and holiday kits. Short shelf life, but the same buyer returns each month.
Back-to-school, exam season, tax time and new-year goal sets.
Decorative
Functional

Our working map, not marketplace data. The highlighted corner has the longest useful life per pack.

Decorative kits are the obvious place to start, because they are the most fun to draw. That is a reason to look at the functional corner first, where the drawing is duller and the pack gets used daily. A sensible shop has both: the functional set makes the customer, and the monthly kit gives them a reason to come back. For when seasonal kits should be live, see our seasonal digital products calendar.

Digital stickers to sell: eight niches by planner job

Each row is a job, the person doing it, what the pack has to contain, and the detail that separates a useful pack from a pretty one. The order is not a ranking.

NicheWho uses itWhat the pack containsDetail that makes it work
Functional icons and labelsAnyone running a weekly plannerAppointments, bills, chores, errands; headers and flags in three sizesLegible at thumbnail size, in one consistent scale
WidgetsPlanners who build pages from blank paperSticky notes, checklists, mini calendars, weekly boxesLarge enough to write in; blank and lined versions
Student study setsStudents taking notes on a tabletSubject tabs, exam countdowns, due-date flags, definition and formula boxesHigh contrast on white, dotted and dark paper
Teacher planning setsTeachers planning lessons digitallyPeriod labels, duty and meeting markers, grading and parent-contact flagsShort labels that fit a timetable cell
Budget and bill trackersPeople running a money plannerPayday, bill due, paid, savings goal and no-spend markersA paid and an unpaid state for the same sticker
Health and habit trackersFitness, meal and wellness plannersWater, workout, sleep and meal icons; habit grids; mood facesFillable trackers sized to common weekly layouts
Monthly decorative kitsJournalers who dress each spreadTapes, paper scraps, photo frames and a seasonal motif in one paletteNo baked-in shadows, or a version with and without
Date and lettering setsUsers of undated plannersNumbers 1 to 31, months, weekdays, alphabet tilesNamed so files sort in order; other languages are an opening

Two patterns run through the table. First, states sell: a bill sticker with a due version and a paid version, a habit box that is empty and one that is filled. Planning is about changing a page over time, and a pack that models the change is doing the buyer's thinking for them. Second, narrow beats broad: "planner stickers" is a category, while "nursing student study stickers" is a person with an exam date.

Goodnotes stickers that sell are pre-cropped

The single biggest format decision is whether each sticker is its own file. On a sheet, the buyer has to cut every sticker out before using it. Goodnotes does have a crop tool, with rectangle and freehand modes, but nobody wants to run it eighty times.

Two ways to deliver the same eighty stickers
One sheet of stickers
  • Buyer crops each sticker by hand before first use
  • A loose crop drags in a slice of the neighboring sticker
  • Every sticker shares one resolution budget
  • Cannot be added to a collection in bulk
  • Simple to make, which is why it is common
Pre-cropped individual PNGs
  • Ready to place the moment they are imported
  • Transparent to the edge, with no neighbors
  • Each file exported at its own best size
  • Whole folder goes into an Elements collection at once
  • Also works in Notability and other apps as images

Beyond PNGs, there are four ways a pack can arrive, and a good listing says exactly which ones are inside.

FormatWhat the buyer doesWorks inTrade-off
Individual pre-cropped PNGsAdds them to an Elements collection, or places them as imagesGoodnotes, Notability and other apps that place imagesMany files, so a ZIP and clear names are required
Goodnotes collection fileImports the whole collection in one stepGoodnotes onlyYou build and share it from Goodnotes yourself, and retest it after app updates
Sticker sheet (one PNG or PDF page)Crops out each sticker by handAnything that opens an imageSlowest for the buyer; the format behind most complaints
Print-and-cut sheetPrints it and cuts it outA printer and scissors or a cutting machineA different product. Never mix it into a digital pack unlabeled

The collection file is the convenience format. In Goodnotes you build a collection in Elements, then choose Share from its edit menu; Goodnotes says the recipient can import the collection file. Include it alongside the PNGs, never instead of them, so buyers on other apps are not locked out.

How a buyer loads your pack into Goodnotes

Walk this path yourself on a tablet before you list. Every step where you hesitate is a support message waiting to happen.

From Etsy download to first sticker on the page
  1. 1
    Download and unzip

In the Files app, tapping a ZIP creates a folder with the files inside.

  2. 2
    Open Elements

In Goodnotes, select Elements from the toolbar.

  3. 3
    Start a collection

Scroll to the end of the collection list and select the plus icon. Enter a title.

  4. 4
    Bring in the PNGs

Select Import from to pick files, or Add Photos for images saved to the photo library.

  5. 5
    Create

Select Create. Expected result: the collection appears in the list with every sticker in it.

  6. 6
    Use a sticker

Elements, then Stickers, then the collection. Tap a sticker or drag it onto the page.

Two limits sit on that path. An Etsy listing takes up to five files of 20MB each, so the PNGs travel in a ZIP. And Goodnotes Free has a 5MB import file size limit, which the Essential and Pro plans remove (checked October 2026). A single sticker is nowhere near that, but a collection file with a hundred stickers can be, so split big collections by theme.

Notability handles purchased stickers differently. Its help pages describe adding images through the media tool, where they can be cropped, duplicated, locked in place and layered, while its My Stickers section is for stickers made by grouping handwritten content. Your PNGs work there as images. Say so plainly in the listing, and those buyers will not expect a sticker library you cannot give them.

The format spec that earns five-star reviews

Goodnotes publishes no pixel specification for stickers that we could find, so the numbers below are working rules from the constraints: files have to stay sharp when zoomed, light enough to import, and tight enough to align.

Spec sheet for a digital sticker pack
  • One transparent PNG per sticker, never a sheet on its own
  • Trimmed to the artwork with a small even margin, so the selection box hugs the sticker
  • 600 to 1,500 px on the long edge for icons and labels; larger for half-page widgets
  • Every file under 5MB, and collection files split to stay under it
  • One scale across the pack, so stickers arrive at matching sizes
  • File names that sort: 01-header-blue, 02-header-green
  • A version without drop shadows, which look wrong on dark paper
  • A Goodnotes collection file as well as the PNG folder
  • A one-page PDF outside the ZIP with the import steps
  • Tested on white, dotted and dark paper before listing

The margin is the detail buyers feel without being able to name. Transparent padding is still part of the image, so a sticker exported from a large canvas arrives with a selection box far bigger than the art, and it will not sit flush against a line or another sticker. Trim each file to its artwork. Our clipart tutorial covers exporting one transparent PNG per layer.

A digital planner stickers business: pack, bundle, planner

Stickers are a low-priced product, so the shop has to be built as a ladder. One pack proves the style. A bundle of packs for the same planner user raises the order. A planner designed around your stickers is the product they were leading to all along.

The sticker shop ladder
  1. 01
    One functional pack

The niche, tested: one job, done well.

  2. 02
    Matching packs

Same style, neighboring jobs: budget, habits, dates.

  3. 03
    A bundle

Everything for one kind of planner user.

  4. 04
    Monthly kits

A reason for the same buyer to return.

  5. 05
    The planner

Pages built to fit the stickers they already own.

Check each niche before you draw it. Etsy's Marketplace Insights shows searches and listings for a phrase over the last 30 days, with 15 keyword searches a week at no charge, so test the job-first phrasing: "budget planner stickers digital", "student digital stickers". Our guide to finding what sells on Etsy shows how to read the result, and our tutorial on making a planner to sell covers the top rung.

Three notes on the edges of this business. Goodnotes runs its own Marketplace with a stickers category, but its creator sign-up page said applications were temporarily paused when we checked in October 2026. Buyers of sticker packs are end users, so a personal-use license is the norm; if planner sellers ask to include your art in products they sell, that is a commercial license question, covered in our guide to clipart niches and licenses. And when you are ready to grow past single packs, our Digital Products program covers pre-selling a product before you build it and the upsell path from a first purchase to a bundle.

Digital sticker niches and formats: FAQ

What digital sticker niches sell?

No marketplace publishes sales by sticker niche, so no list can be ranked honestly. The niches with a clear daily user are defined by the planning job: functional icons and labels, widgets such as sticky notes and checklists, student study sets, teacher planning sets, budget trackers, health and habit trackers, monthly decorative kits, and date and lettering sets. Functional packs get opened every day.

What format should digital stickers be in?

Deliver every sticker as its own pre-cropped transparent PNG, and add a Goodnotes collection file for one-step import. A single sheet with all the stickers on it forces the buyer to crop each one by hand. Individual PNGs also work in Notability and other apps that place images, so one pack serves more buyers.

How do buyers import stickers into Goodnotes?

They unzip the download in the Files app, open Goodnotes, select Elements in the toolbar, tap the plus icon at the end of the collection list, name the collection, choose Import from or Add Photos, pick the PNGs and select Create. The stickers then sit under Stickers in Elements, ready to tap or drag onto any page. Checked October 2026.

Do digital stickers work in Notability?

As images, yes. Notability's support pages describe adding images through the media tool, where they can be cropped, duplicated, locked and layered. Its My Stickers section holds stickers made by grouping handwritten content, so a purchased PNG behaves as an image, not as a library sticker. Say that in the listing so Notability buyers know what to expect.

How big should digital sticker files be?

Keep every file under 5MB. Goodnotes Free has a 5MB import file size limit, which the Essential and Pro plans remove. A single sticker PNG is far below that, but a collection file holding a hundred stickers may not be, so split large collections. For pixel size, we work at 600 to 1,500 pixels on the long edge, which is our rule, not a Goodnotes requirement.

Can I sell stickers on the Goodnotes Marketplace?

Not as a new creator at the moment. Goodnotes says anyone can apply to sell on its Marketplace and that it does not require exclusivity, but its sign-up page said applications were temporarily paused because of high volume when we checked in October 2026. Until that reopens, sell packs through Etsy or your own store.

Are digital stickers and printable stickers the same product?

No. Digital stickers are transparent PNGs placed inside a note-taking app and never printed. Printable stickers are sheets a buyer prints and cuts, by hand or with a cutting machine, and need print resolution and cut lines. The same artwork can become both, but list them separately, because the buyers, the files and the support questions are different.
