To sell video templates, pick the editor your buyers use, then the route that is actually open to you: CapCut templates go through CapCut's approved creator program, while After Effects and Premiere templates sell best from your own store because Envato, Adobe Stock and Creative Market all gate new sellers. Ship only assets you own or can redistribute, and package each template with a preview, a guide and placeholders.
To sell video templates, decide which editor your buyers use (CapCut, After Effects or Premiere Pro), build templates from assets you own, and sell them through the route that is open to you: CapCut's template creator program for CapCut, and your own store or an approved marketplace for After Effects and Premiere. The two worlds work differently: CapCut templates live inside the app and are posted by approved creators, while After Effects and Premiere templates are files you sell and deliver yourself.
Platform rules checked October 2026 against CapCut's template posting help, the US Template Creator Program page and the CapCut Materials License Agreement; Adobe's video template requirements; Creative Market's shop request guide; and the fee pages of Gumroad, Payhip and Etsy linked below.
Most guides treat video templates as one market. They are two. CapCut has a very large base of people who edit on a phone and do not want to design anything, and they use templates inside the app. After Effects and Premiere buyers are working editors and agencies who buy project files to save hours on client work. The skills overlap; the distribution, the file you ship and the rules around assets do not. If you are new to building products in general, start with our complete guide to creating a digital product, then come back here for the video-specific parts.
How to sell video templates: pick your market first
- Buyers edit on a phone and want a ready-made look
- Templates live inside CapCut, posted by approved creators
- You earn through CapCut programs, not your own price
- Built around trends, so they date quickly
- Buyers are editors, agencies and in-house teams
- You sell a project file and deliver it yourself
- You set the price and keep the customer email
- Titles, lower thirds and transitions stay useful for years
The honest answer for most beginners: if you already edit in CapCut and follow trends daily, apply to CapCut's program. If you can build clean, well-organised After Effects or Premiere projects, sell files from your own store. Trying to do both on day one usually means doing neither well.
Is a CapCut templates business possible?
Yes, but not in the way many people expect. CapCut's help page on posting templates says posting is restricted to approved template creators: you apply through the mobile app or the CapCut website, wait for review, and then post from the mobile app (checked October 2026). The web version generally cannot publish templates, and the desktop app may need the mobile app to finish posting.
The money side runs through CapCut, not through a price you set. The US Template Creator Program describes Explorer, Emerging and Elite tiers, with creation tasks, workshops and template boosting, and cash rewards at the Elite level; the page says the better your templates perform, the more you earn, and that this program is only for US creators (checked October 2026). CapCut does not publish fixed payout rates on that page, so treat it as a performance program, not a store.
- 1Build a portfolio of edits
Post trend edits on your own account so reviewers can see your style and consistency.
- 2Apply as a template creator
Through the CapCut mobile app or the official website. Expected result: an application under review.
- 3Wait for approval
CapCut says review time depends on account activity and content quality.
- 4Post templates from the mobile app
Desktop and web have limited or no template publishing.
- 5Track which templates get used
Programs reward performance, so double down on the formats people actually reuse.
What about selling CapCut packs on Etsy or Gumroad? Read CapCut's Materials License Agreement first. The US version (last updated January 22, 2026) says you must not resell, sublicense or distribute CapCut's Platform Materials (clips, stickers, fonts, effects, filters, sound effects) or its music on a standalone basis, and that those materials may be edited only inside CapCut (checked October 2026). So a file that is mostly CapCut's own effects is not yours to sell. What you can sell outside the app is your own work: original overlays, footage you shot, graphics you designed, and guides that teach a look step by step.
Which After Effects templates marketplace is open in 2026?
Fewer than most older guides suggest. The professional marketplaces all gate new sellers right now:
- Envato (Videohive and Envato Elements). Envato has paused new author applications, and Envato Elements works by invitation. Our guide to selling on Envato covers how its fees and subscription share work if you get in later.
- Adobe Stock. Adobe's video template requirements say the program is invitation-only and ask you to send a reel for review before submitting templates (checked October 2026). If you are invited, the specs are strict: Motion Graphics templates as .mogrt under 300MB at 1920x1080, After Effects templates as .aet under 2GB with a tutorial folder, and Premiere templates as .prproj.
- Creative Market. Its shop request guide says a person reviews each request, wants an online portfolio with 10 to 20 examples of your best work, and that commission rates vary per shop and product (checked October 2026). Waitlisted applicants can reapply with new work.
That leaves your own storefront as the route you control. It is also the one that builds an asset: every buyer email is someone you can sell the next pack to. Our breakdown of where to sell digital products compares the storefront options in more depth.
| Route | Who can sell | How you are paid | Buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| CapCut in-app templates | Approved template creators only | Program rewards, not per-sale prices (US program) | Mobile editors who want a ready-made edit for trends |
| Envato (Videohive, Elements) | Author applications paused; Elements invite-only | Per-sale fee (Market) or subscription share (Elements) | Professional editors and agencies |
| Adobe Stock video templates | Invitation-only program | Contributor royalties set by Adobe | Premiere Pro and After Effects users inside Adobe apps |
| Creative Market | Shop request reviewed against a portfolio | Commission varies per shop and product | Designers and small studios |
| Your own store (Gumroad, Payhip) | Open to anyone | You set the price; platform fee per sale | Your own audience from social, email and search |
| Etsy | Open; items must be designed by you | Listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, processing fee | Buyers searching by event or style |

New versions and add-on packs
The strongest packs solve one job for one kind of editor. "Titles" is a category; "lower thirds for interview podcasts, ten styles, one-click colour control" is a product. A narrow job also makes your preview video easy to film, because the buyer sees their own use case on screen.
How to build a template buyers can actually use
A buyer judges a template in the first ten minutes after download. If they cannot find where to change the text, they ask for a refund. Build for that moment:
- One control layer. In After Effects, put every editable setting (text, colours, logo) on a single controls layer or in the Essential Graphics panel so buyers do not dig through precomps.
- Named, colour-coded layers and folders. "EDIT TEXT HERE" beats "Text 14".
- Placeholder media. Use solid colours or your own clips where the buyer's footage goes.
- Version note. State the app version you built in. Older versions often cannot open newer projects.
- Premiere-native option. Exporting a Motion Graphics template (.mogrt) lets Premiere users edit your After Effects design without opening After Effects.
How to set up a video template shop
Your own shop needs three things to sell video templates: large-file delivery, a page that plays a preview, and fees you can live with at your price point. Etsy's digital listings rules allow up to five files of 20MB each and say digital items must be made or designed by you (checked October 2026). Most project files with previews are larger than that, so Etsy sellers typically deliver a small PDF with a download link, a setup our guide to delivering digital products with Google Drive walks through. Storefronts like Gumroad handle much larger files directly; see our note on the Gumroad file size limit.
| Platform | Fees checked October 2026 | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Gumroad | 10% + $0.50 per direct sale; 30% on Discover marketplace sales | gumroad.com/pricing |
| Payhip | Free plan 5% per sale; Plus $29/month at 2%; Pro $99/month at 0% (payment processor fees extra) | payhip.com/pricing |
| Etsy | $0.20 per listing (four months), 6.5% transaction fee, processing fee by country (US: 3% + $0.25) | etsy.com/legal/fees |
| Creative Market | Commission varies per shop and product | Creative Market support |

What goes on the listing page
- A preview video of the template in a realistic edit, not a logo on black
- The editor and minimum version it works in
- Resolution and aspect ratios included (16:9, 9:16, 1:1)
- What is editable: text, colours, duration, media slots
- Fonts required, with links, and whether any plugins are needed
- What is not included (music, stock footage)
- A short licence summary: where buyers may use the output
Vertical versions matter more every year: editors cutting for Reels, TikTok and Shorts want 9:16 built in, not a 16:9 template they have to rework. If your pack includes both, say so in the first line of the listing. For more on demo videos that sell, our guide to listing videos for digital products covers length and structure.
A 90-day plan for your first packs
- 1Weeks 1 to 2: pick the job
Choose one editor and one use case. Collect 20 examples of what that buyer already makes.
- 2Weeks 3 to 5: build pack one
Eight to twelve variations of one template, one control layer, a guide and a preview.
- 3Week 6: launch
Store page live, preview posted as short videos, link in your bio.
- 4Weeks 7 to 9: listen
Read every support question and refund reason. Fix the guide first.
- 5Weeks 10 to 12: pack two
Build the add-on buyers asked for, and offer it to pack-one buyers first.
This is where a structured program helps: our Digital Products program covers choosing a product, building a storefront, pricing and launching, so your template packs sit inside a business rather than a folder of files.
Mistakes that sink video template sellers
- Selling someone else's assets. CapCut effects, stock clips and commercial fonts inside your ZIP are the fastest route to takedowns.
- No version testing. Open the project on the oldest app version you claim to support before you list it.
- Missing fonts warning. Buyers who open a project with missing fonts assume it is broken.
- Preview-only listings. Show the editing panel too, so buyers see how easy the changes are.
- Waiting for a marketplace. With Envato paused and Adobe invite-only, building your own audience is the step you can take today.
Once your first pack sells, the playbook in digital products for graphic designers shows how to widen into neighbouring products such as social templates and brand kits.
Selling video templates: FAQ
Can I sell CapCut templates?
Inside CapCut, only approved template creators can post templates, and CapCut runs its own creator program that pays some US creators based on how their templates perform. Selling CapCut content outside the app is limited: CapCut's Materials License Agreement says you cannot resell or distribute its stickers, effects, fonts or music on a standalone basis. What you can sell elsewhere is your own work, such as original footage, graphics and editing guides. Checked October 2026.
Where can I sell After Effects templates in 2026?
The big template marketplaces are mostly closed to newcomers right now. Envato has paused new author applications and Envato Elements is invite-only, and Adobe Stock says its video templates program is invitation-only. Creative Market reviews shop requests against a portfolio. That leaves your own store on Gumroad, Payhip or a similar platform as the route you control from day one. Checked October 2026.
What file formats do video template buyers expect?
After Effects buyers expect a project file (.aep, or .aet for templates) with a clear folder structure and a help file. Premiere Pro buyers expect a .prproj project or a Motion Graphics template (.mogrt) they can drop into the Essential Graphics panel. Always include a preview video, the version of the app you built in, any free fonts listed with download links, and a short guide that shows where to change text, colours and media.
Can I sell video templates on Etsy?
Yes, if you designed them yourself. Etsy requires digital items to be made or designed by the seller, accepts up to five files of up to 20MB each per listing, and supports .zip and .mov uploads. Most After Effects or Premiere projects are bigger than 20MB, so sellers usually upload a PDF or small ZIP that contains a download link to the full project. Checked October 2026.
Do I need permission for fonts, music and footage in my templates?
Yes. Anything you ship inside a template file must be licensed for redistribution, and most fonts, music and stock clips are not. The safe pattern is to ship placeholders, list the free fonts with links so buyers download them, and leave music and footage out or use your own. Read each asset's licence: a licence to use something in your own video is not a licence to resell it inside a template.
How should I price video templates?
Price against the time a template saves and against similar packs on the platform where you sell, then check your take-home after fees. Platform fees differ: Gumroad charges 10% plus $0.50 per direct sale, Payhip's free plan charges 5% per sale, and Etsy charges a listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing on top, checked October 2026. Packs of related templates usually make more sense than single files.
Turn templates into a product line. Build the shop, not just the file.
The Digital Products program, included in All Access, covers product choice, storefronts, pricing and launches, with the other three programs, live coaching and the private community in one subscription.
