A creator account on OnlyFans earns from six streams: subscriptions, pay-to-unlock messages and posts, tips, bundles, custom requests and referrals. OnlyFans keeps 20% of each fan payment and pays 80%. Earnings wait 7 days as a pending balance for most creators, the minimum withdrawal is $20 for most methods, and a payout takes 3 to 5 business days. Nothing in the terms promises income: results vary and many accounts earn little.
You make money on OnlyFans from six things a creator account can sell or earn: a monthly subscription, pay-to-unlock messages and posts, tips, multi-month bundles, custom requests paid through messages or tips, and referral payments for bringing in other creators. OnlyFans keeps 20% of every fan payment and pays the creator 80%, and nothing in its terms promises that an account will earn anything. Below: each stream with its published limits, the fee and payout mechanics, and what it takes to run.

OnlyFans is an 18+ platform, and this page is about the business mechanics only. I run a creator management agency, so I work with these streams every day, but every number below is a limit or a fee OnlyFans publishes. None of it is anyone's income, and this page contains no earnings figures on purpose.
The six revenue streams, with OnlyFans' limits
| Stream | What it is | Published limit | Where OnlyFans says it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Subscriptions | A monthly price for access to the page, renewing until cancelled | $4.99 to $50 a month, or a free page at $0.00 | Help centre: subscription price |
| 2. Pay-to-unlock messages and posts | A one-off price on a single message or post | $3 to $100 each | Help centre: message and post price |
| 3. Tips | A voluntary payment a fan sends with the Send Tip button, with an optional comment | $3 minimum. $100 maximum for new users, $200 after 4 months on the platform | Help centre: tip limits |
| 4. Bundles and promotions | Several months sold at once, or a time-limited discount or free trial | Bundles of 2 or more months up to $250. Discounts up to 90% | Help centre: subscription price; promotional campaigns |
| 5. Custom requests | A fan asks for something specific and pays through a priced message or a tip | No separate product. The message and tip limits apply | Terms of Use; no help page of its own |
| 6. Referrals | A payment for bringing a new creator to the platform | 5% of that creator's fan payments for 12 months, up to a cap per creator | Referral Program Terms, last updated August 2024 |
The fee: what OnlyFans keeps and what you keep
One rate applies to everything a fan pays. The help centre says: "Creators receive 80% of any Fan Payment made to them, including subscriptions, paid messages, and tips. OnlyFans retains 20% of any Fan Payment made on OnlyFans." The Terms of Use put it in contract form: "Our Fee is calculated as 20% of the total Fan Payment and will be deducted from each Fan Payment."

- OnlyFans fee (20%)$2.00

The 80% is not yet money in the bank. It still has to clear the pending period, survive any refund or chargeback, and cross whatever your bank or e-wallet charges to receive US dollars. And if anyone helps run the account for a share, that share comes out of the 80% as well; how those arrangements work is in what an OnlyFans agency does.
How each stream works
1. Subscriptions
A creator sets a monthly price "between $4.99 and $50 per month", or chooses "a free account ($0.00 price)" and earns from individual pieces of content instead. A subscription renews automatically at the current rate until the fan turns auto-renew off. One detail in the Terms of Use matters for pricing: a fan is not charged again automatically if "the Subscription price has increased". Raising the price therefore ends existing renewals at the old price, so a price rise is a decision to re-sell the page to every current subscriber.
2. Pay-to-unlock messages and posts
Any post or private message can carry a price from $3 to $100. For a message, the help centre says fans "will be charged automatically when they agree to view, and pay for, the content". The creator's side of the bargain is in the terms: content must be "as described by you", so the caption on a locked message is a description the creator is held to. On a free page this stream is the business. Fanvue prices the same product differently, as our Fanvue PPV pricing guide shows.
3. Tips
The tip button is not there on day one: OnlyFans activates it "once you have begun actively posting". A tip is at least $3, and at most $100 from a new user or $200 from a user who has been on the platform at least 4 months. Live streams open only when an account is active, has at least 5 recent posts and at least 5 active subscribers.
4. Bundles and promotions
A bundle sells 2 or more months of subscription at once, up to a bundle price of $250. A promotional campaign discounts the subscription by up to 90% for a limited time and a limited number of fans, and a free trial gives access for a set period. These do not add a new kind of payment. They change when the subscription money arrives and who is willing to start paying it.
5. Custom requests
OnlyFans' help centre has no page on custom requests, because there is no separate product: a fan asks, the creator names a price, and it is paid through a priced message or a tip inside the limits above. Three rules still apply. The Terms of Use say "Creators are solely responsible for determining any pricing". Once an interaction is confirmed, the creator "must perform their part". And the Acceptable Use Policy bounds what may be offered at all. Writing the offers down as a price list is the subject of our OnlyFans menu guide.
6. Referrals
The Creator Referral Program pays 5% of the fan payments a referred creator generates in their first 12 months, up to a cap per referred creator set in the Referral Program Terms. The referred creator must be new to OnlyFans and sign up with the referrer's link, and can unlink at any time. Payments are processed on the first working day of each month. This is the stream most often oversold. Fanvue, which runs a near-identical 5% scheme, says of its own referrers: "Most referrers earn relatively little."
One stream sits outside fan payments: sponsored posts. OnlyFans allows advertising content for third-party products if it is labelled with a signifier such as #ad and names the brand. That money is agreed with the brand and is not a fan payment.
Fee and payout mechanics
| Mechanic | What OnlyFans publishes |
|---|---|
| Platform fee | 20% of the total fan payment, deducted from each payment. The creator receives 80% |
| Currency | Prices and payouts are in US dollars. A bank or e-wallet may charge conversion or receiving fees |
| Sales tax | Fan payments are exclusive of indirect sales tax, which is added at the applicable rate |
| Pending balance | 7 days for most creators. 21 days in a small number of countries, moving to 7 days after four months |
| Minimum withdrawal | $20 for most payout methods |
| Payout timing | Requests are processed immediately and should be paid within 3 to 5 business days, in some cases up to 10 |
| Automatic payouts | Monthly, weekly or daily where the payout method allows it, once the balance is above the minimum |
| Refunds and chargebacks | The creator earnings portion of the refunded amount is deducted |
| Payment outside the platform | Not allowed. Directing fans to pay elsewhere risks the account being deactivated |

Your 80% shows in the pending balance on the Statements page.
- Day 7Pending becomes current

In some cases up to 10 business days. Your bank or e-wallet may take a fee.

A refund or a successful chargeback after that point is taken back. The help centre says OnlyFans "cannot prevent a Fan from issuing a chargeback request" and that the amount "will be removed from the Creator's income". Fanvue's terms are close, with a 7-day pending period that can be extended and the same 80% share, and every row is side by side on Fanvue vs OnlyFans.
What it takes to run
The platform processes payments and hosts the content. Everything that makes a fan arrive and stay is the creator's work.
- Payment processing and the paywall
- Subscription, paid message, tip and bundle tools
- Promotional campaigns and free trials
- Watermarking and DRM for content
- Statements and payouts
- An audience built on other platforms
- Content on a schedule fans can rely on
- Daily replies to messages
- Honest descriptions of everything you sell
- Identity checks, rule checks and tax records
The first line on the right is the hard one. OnlyFans says it "does not accept requests or payment for advertising or promoting Creator accounts", and its search needs a creator's username, so fans arrive from somewhere else. Where a page may be promoted is covered in OnlyFans advertising rules, and the weekly routine in our OnlyFans management guide.
The second hard part is messaging. Fanvue publishes something OnlyFans does not: in its guide for new creators, dated 10 August 2026, it says the subscription itself is around 10% of what creators earn in their first two months on Fanvue and paid messages around 60%. That is Fanvue's data about Fanvue, not a forecast for any account, but it describes the shape of the work: the subscription opens the door and the conversation does the selling.
- You have an audience somewhere, or a plan and the months to build one
- You have read the price limits and can state what each thing you sell includes
- You know the 20% fee, the 7-day pending period and the $20 minimum
- You can cover your costs if a month brings in very little
- You will pass the identity checks in your own name
- You know which tax rules apply to you, or who to ask
- Nobody has promised you a figure, and you would not believe them if they had
Where an AI persona fits
The same six streams exist for an AI persona, but not on OnlyFans. OnlyFans says AI content may be shared only if "it clearly features the verified Creator", and its creator guide lists "accounts or content that are wholly AI-generated" among content that cannot be shared (help centre, read 13 October 2026; the detail is in AI OnlyFans rules). Fanvue's help centre says "AI creators are a fully recognised and verified category on Fanvue", and its Community Guidelines, updated 12 October 2026, require "a clear and prominent disclosure" on all AI-generated media.
Fanvue's policy lists the same products, "subscriptions, tips, pay-per-view messages, bundles, and custom content", at the same 80% standard rate, and the same warning applies: results vary and many accounts earn little. A persona is a fictional adult who reads as an adult, never built from a real person's face, name or likeness without written permission, as is AI adult content legal? explains. The platform is reviewed in our Fanvue guide, setup is in how to start an AI model on Fanvue, and the chat tools in Fanvue AI messaging tools and rules. The AI Influencers program covers building the persona and the audience that any of these streams depends on.
Making money on OnlyFans: FAQ
How do you make money on OnlyFans?
A creator account earns from six things: a monthly subscription, pay-to-unlock messages and posts, tips, multi-month subscription bundles, custom requests paid for through messages or tips, and referral payments for bringing in other creators. OnlyFans keeps 20% of each fan payment and pays the creator 80%. None of it is automatic: the fans come from an audience the creator builds elsewhere.
How much does OnlyFans take from creators?
OnlyFans takes 20%. Its help centre says "Creators receive 80% of any Fan Payment made to them, including subscriptions, paid messages, and tips", and its Terms of Use say the fee "is calculated as 20% of the total Fan Payment". OnlyFans lists no payout fee of its own, but a bank or e-wallet provider may charge for currency conversion or for receiving the money.
How long does it take to get paid on OnlyFans?
Earnings sit in a pending balance for 7 days for most creators, or 21 days in a small number of countries, and then move to the current balance. From there a payout request is "processed immediately and should be paid within 3-5 business days", and can take up to 10. The minimum withdrawal is $20 for most payout methods. Read 13 October 2026.
How much can you charge on OnlyFans?
OnlyFans sets the limits. A subscription is $4.99 to $50 a month, or free at $0.00. A bundle of 2 or more months can cost up to $250. A pay-to-unlock message or post is $3 to $100. A tip is $3 to $100, or up to $200 from a fan who has been on the platform at least 4 months. Inside those limits the creator sets every price.
How much money do OnlyFans creators make?
OnlyFans publishes no typical creator earnings on the pages read for this article, so there is no official figure, and this page does not quote an unofficial one. Results vary enormously and many accounts earn little. The Terms of Use list any promise or guarantee "that Creators or Referring Users will generate earnings from OnlyFans" among the things OnlyFans is not responsible for.
Do you pay tax on OnlyFans earnings?
You may have to, and it is your job to find out. OnlyFans says "You are responsible for ensuring you pay any tax that you owe on your OnlyFans earnings" and that it cannot give tax advice. Fan payments are charged with indirect sales tax added on top, which OnlyFans collects; income tax on what you receive is between you and your tax authority.
Can an AI model make money on OnlyFans?
Not as a wholly AI-generated account. OnlyFans allows AI content only if "it clearly features the verified Creator", and its creator guide lists "accounts or content that are wholly AI-generated" among content that cannot be shared. Fanvue accepts AI creators with a clear disclosure and an AI tag in the bio, and it pays the same 80% at its standard rate.
