Quick answer

OnlyFans lets creators link to their page from other platforms and link aggregators, but bans promoting an account with Google Ads or any similar advertising service, and does not sell promotion itself. X and Reddit allow labelled adult content in ordinary posts. Instagram limits content naming an adult subscription site to adult viewers, and TikTok does not allow facilitating access to sexual imagery. Meta, X and Reddit all prohibit adult sexual content in paid ads.

OnlyFans advertising is organic, not paid: OnlyFans lets a creator link to their page from other platforms and link aggregators, but its terms ban promoting an account with Google Ads or any similar advertising or search advertising service. Of the five places read for this page, X and Reddit allow labelled adult content in ordinary posts, Instagram limits content that names or links an adult subscription site to adult viewers, TikTok does not allow facilitating access to sexual imagery, and Meta, X and Reddit all prohibit adult sexual content in paid ads. Each rule is quoted below with its page and date.

OnlyFans: the help answers on promoting an account on other platforms, promotion by OnlyFans and content moderation, and the Terms of Use (last updated August 2024). Meta: the Adult Sexual Solicitation and Adult Nudity and Sexual Activity standards, the Advertising Standards and Instagram's AI-generated profile label post. TikTok: Community Guidelines on sensitive and mature themes, regulated and commercial activities and integrity and authenticity. X: the Adult Content policy and the ads policy on adult or sexual products and services. Reddit: the Reddit Rules, the help articles on spam and prohibited transactions, and the ads policy on adult content. Google: the Google Ads Sexual content policy. Fanvue: the Creator Advertising and Promotion Policy (updated 15 April 2025) and the help article Promoting your Fanvue page. Words in double quotes are the platform's own. This page is a reading of published policy for adults running a business. It lists what each platform says, not ways around it, and where a platform is silent it says so. I run a creator management agency, and promotion rules are where I see the most avoidable mistakes, usually on the social platform and not on the subscription site.

What OnlyFans' own terms say about promotion

OnlyFans starts from permission. Its help centre says other platforms "may allow you to connect your OnlyFans account to your profile and share Content" and that you "can also use link aggregators to share a link to your OnlyFans profile". Then it lists five things a link or promotion must not do: be false, suggest "that your profile is endorsed by OnlyFans", break OnlyFans' Terms of Service, break "the terms of service of the platform you are using to promote your account", or use "Google Ads or any similar advertising platform or search engine advertising service".

Promotion under OnlyFans' own terms
Not allowed
  • Google Ads or any similar advertising platform
  • Search engine advertising of any kind
  • A link that is deceptive, or promotion that is false
  • Suggesting OnlyFans approves of or endorses the profile
  • Breaking the rules of the platform the link is posted on
  • Shoutout for shoutout posts that link to a shoutout account
Allowed
  • Connecting the account to other platforms that permit it
  • A link to the profile through a link aggregator
  • Truthful promotion that follows both sets of terms
  • A domain that redirects to the profile, with OnlyFans' written permission

The fifth item on the left is the one that does the work. The Terms of Use repeat it as a contract term: "Any link promoting your Creator account must comply with our Terms of Service and the terms of service where you advertise." So a breach of Instagram's or Reddit's rules is also a breach of OnlyFans' terms. OnlyFans will not do the promoting either. It "does not accept requests or payment for advertising or promoting Creator accounts on OnlyFans or on our social media accounts", although it may choose to feature creators on its own Instagram and X accounts.

Instagram: age-limited mentions, no adult content

Meta's Adult Sexual Solicitation standard draws two lines that are easy to confuse. It does not allow content that "asks for, offers or provides methods of contact to acquire pornographic material, or contains usernames or links to pornographic websites". Separately, it limits to adults aged 18 and older any "Content that contains usernames, links to or logos of Adult Subscription Websites". A mention of a subscription page is therefore restricted in who sees it, and an offer of adult material is removed.

The content of the account is covered by a different standard. Meta says "we remove real photographs and videos of nudity and sexual activity, AI- or computer-generated images of nudity and sexual activity, and digital imagery, regardless of whether it looks 'photorealistic'". For paid promotion, the Advertising Standards say "Ads must not contain adult nudity and sexual activity", including "activities that are sexually suggestive", and must not contain content "asking for or offering pornographic content". Instagram can hold a general-audience account. It is not a place to advertise a subscription page with money.

TikTok: no route to adult content

TikTok's Community Guidelines, effective 24 September 2026, say "we generally don't allow adult nudity or sexual activity". The not-allowed list goes further than content, to include "Facilitating access to sexual services, such as offering or asking for sexual acts, sexual chats or imagery, or pornography". TikTok also explains how it judges intent: "The creator's intent matters, which we infer by looking at context: bios, hashtags, captions, and sounds." The bio is named in that sentence.

A second rule applies to anything commercial. Under Commercial Disclosure and Paid Marketing, disclosure is required when you are "Promoting your own business, product, or service", using the content disclosure setting. TikTok's advertising policy on adult content could not be opened signed out on the day of reading, so it is left out of this page.

X: labelled posts yes, paid promotion no

X is the most permissive of the five for ordinary posts. Its Adult Content policy, dated May 2024, says: "You may share consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior, provided it's properly labeled and not prominently displayed." It cannot appear in "live video, profile pictures, headers, List banners, or Community cover photos", and the policy states that it "also applies to AI-generated, photographic or animated content". The pages read say nothing specific about linking to a subscription page.

Paid promotion is closed. The ads policy on adult or sexual products and services says X "prohibits the promotion of adult sexual content globally", and its examples include "Sexual entertainment products or services" and "Full and/or partial nudity depiction". The same page says it applies to monetization on X as well as to paid advertising.

Reddit: sitewide rules, then each community's

Reddit has two layers and both bind. Sitewide, Rule 6 says to label content "that is graphic, sexually-explicit, or offensive", and Rule 2 says to "Participate authentically in communities where you have a personal interest, and do not spam". The spam policy names the behaviour that gets promotional accounts removed: "Mass-posting repetitive content for the purpose of exposure or financial gain." It also gives its own advice: "If your contributions to Reddit consist primarily of links to a business that you run, own, or otherwise benefit from, please be thoughtful about the frequency of posting".

Below that, every community writes its own rules, and many restrict or ban promotion, AI content or both. Read them before posting; moderators decide what counts as spam in their community. The prohibited transactions policy bans arranging "In-person, paid sexual services" between users. And Reddit's ad platform is closed to this business: "Reddit prohibits the promotion of sexual content and nudity in ads. Reddit also prohibits the promotion of sexual products and services."

Google's Sexual content policy does not ban adult advertisers outright. It says Google Ads "restricts certain kinds of sexual content in ads and destinations, which will only show in limited scenarios based on user search queries, user age and local laws where the ad is being served", and that such ads cannot run on the Display Network or YouTube. For an OnlyFans creator that detail does not matter, because OnlyFans' own contract closes the door first.

How Fanvue's promotion policy differs

Fanvue publishes a separate Creator Advertising and Promotion Policy, and it takes the opposite position on paid traffic. The social platforms' rules above apply to a Fanvue link exactly as they do to an OnlyFans link, and Fanvue's own help centre says so: "Twitter and Reddit allow adult content; Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube don't."

"Subject to their terms" is the whole of it: Fanvue permits paid traffic in principle, and the ad platforms read for this page still refuse adult sexual content. The two platforms are compared row by row on Fanvue vs OnlyFans, and Fanvue itself is reviewed in our Fanvue guide.

Checking a promotion plan against the rules

Promotion is the step that brings fans to a page, which is why it sits at the top of the work described in how to make money on OnlyFans and in our OnlyFans management guide. It is also the step an agency is most often hired for, so if someone else posts for you, the rules below bind them and the consequences land on you; see what an OnlyFans agency does.

Before a link goes on any platform
  1. 1
Read that platform's adult content rule

Is the content allowed at all, and where must it sit?

  2. 2
Read its rule on links and solicitation

Mentioning a subscription page and offering adult material are treated differently.

  3. 3
Check the profile, not just the posts

Profile pictures, headers and bios are held to a stricter standard everywhere.

  4. 4
Read the community or channel rules

On Reddit each community decides whether promotion is welcome.

  5. 5
    Check the labels

Content warnings for adult media, a commercial disclosure, and an AI label where one applies.

  6. 6
    Rule out paid ads

OnlyFans' terms ban them, and the ad platforms read here refuse adult sexual content.

  7. 7
    Write down the date

The policy date and the day you read it. Read it again each month.

A promotion post that fits the rules read here
  • It is truthful about what the page is and what a subscriber gets
  • It does not suggest OnlyFans endorses or approves of the account
  • The post, the profile picture and the bio meet that platform's own standard
  • Adult media, where the platform allows it, carries the required label
  • It is not one of many identical posts sent to many places
  • It follows the rules of the community it is posted in
  • No money was paid to an ad platform to show it
  • An AI persona is labelled as AI wherever the platform asks

What the page sells once a visitor arrives is a separate job: pricing is covered in our OnlyFans menu guide and, for Fanvue, the Fanvue PPV pricing guide.

Where an AI persona fits

Promotion rules assume there is an account to promote. OnlyFans says AI content may be shared only if "it clearly features the verified Creator", and its creator guide lists "accounts or content that are wholly AI-generated" among content that cannot be shared (help centre, read 13 October 2026; see AI OnlyFans rules). Fanvue's help centre says "AI creators are a fully recognised and verified category on Fanvue", and its Community Guidelines, updated 12 October 2026, require "a clear and prominent disclosure" on all AI-generated media. An AI persona is therefore promoting a Fanvue page.

The social platforms add their own AI rules on top of everything above. Instagram said on 31 August 2026 that it will "limit the reach of profiles that feature an AI-generated person and do not add this label", meaning its AI-generated profile label. TikTok requires creators to label AI-generated content "that shows realistic-looking scenes or people". Reddit's Rule 5 says "do not intentionally mislead others". A persona is a fictional adult who reads as an adult, never built from a real person's face, name or likeness without written permission; the law is in is AI adult content legal? Setup is in how to start an AI model on Fanvue, the chat rules in Fanvue AI messaging tools and rules, and the AI Influencers program covers building the social audience a persona depends on.

OnlyFans advertising: FAQ

Can you advertise OnlyFans on Google?

No. OnlyFans' Terms of Use, last updated August 2024, say: "Do not promote your OnlyFans account using Google Ads or any similar advertising platform or search engine advertising service." Google's own Sexual content policy also restricts such ads to limited scenarios based on search query, user age and local law, and does not run them on the Display Network or YouTube.

Can you promote OnlyFans on Instagram?

Only within tight limits. Meta limits content that "contains usernames, links to or logos of Adult Subscription Websites" to viewers aged 18 and older, removes nudity, and does not allow content that offers or asks for pornographic material. A general-audience account can mention that a subscription page exists; it cannot show or offer what is on it. Change log last dated 15 May 2025.

Can you promote OnlyFans on TikTok?

Not on TikTok's published rules. Its Community Guidelines, effective 24 September 2026, list as not allowed "Facilitating access to sexual services, such as offering or asking for sexual acts, sexual chats or imagery, or pornography", and say intent is read from "bios, hashtags, captions, and sounds". A general-audience account can exist there. Pointing it at adult content is what the rule covers.

Can you promote OnlyFans on Reddit?

Yes, inside three layers of rules. Sitewide, Rule 6 requires sexually explicit content to be labelled and the spam policy names "Mass-posting repetitive content for the purpose of exposure or financial gain" as a violation. Each community then sets its own rules on promotion and may ban it. And OnlyFans' own terms require any link to follow the rules of the platform where it is posted.

Can you promote OnlyFans on X?

In ordinary posts, yes. X's Adult Content policy, dated May 2024, allows consensually produced adult content when it is labelled with a content warning and kept out of profile pictures and headers. In paid ads, no: X's ads policy says it "prohibits the promotion of adult sexual content globally". The pages read say nothing specific about links to subscription pages.

Does OnlyFans promote creators?

Not on request. Its help centre says "OnlyFans does not accept requests or payment for advertising or promoting Creator accounts on OnlyFans or on our social media accounts." It may choose to feature creators on its own Instagram and X accounts and may suggest creators for a user to follow, but a creator cannot buy or apply for that.

Can you run paid ads for an OnlyFans page?

On the rules read for this page, no. OnlyFans bans "Google Ads or any similar advertising platform or search engine advertising service". Separately, Meta says ads must not contain adult nudity or offer pornographic content, X prohibits promoting adult sexual content, and Reddit prohibits "the promotion of sexual products and services" in ads. Promotion is organic.
